Some people say that they are the same person now as they were years ago.
Ive thought about this, and I really dont think that it's true. I think we still may have the same ideas, likes and dislikes, but how we see the world would have changed.. even tho we havent even realised it.
Life brings us sorrow and joy, heartbreak and elation, the way we have been treated by the world will leave its mark.. somehow.
When we have dreams that have been shattered, or experience liars that destroy all our perceptions of who they were.. may bring distrust... When we suffer death of a loved one.. we learn to recognise how vulnerable we all are and how life is so precious and can be taken from us at any time.
Fears we had back then we may have overcome, either through experience or a person who has come in to our lives and swept them away leaving us more confident and free of fear..
Depression, even tho we can overcome it can often leave its mark... depression brought on sometimes by medical conditions.. or the injuries of life's experiences.
I know as a child I was very inquisitive and wanted to know how things worked.. I had little fear of people, altho a little shy I truly believed that everyone was the same.. that people were people.. life has taught me otherwise.
As a teenager I was confident and didn't take life very seriously.. shrugging problems off that I would shudder to even try and cope with now.
I still hate canned beans and love fried chicken just as I always have.. But I have become more aware of the health aspect of foods now, as a young woman I had the idea that if it was in a supermarket then it can't harm you.. now I see that manufacturers fill our food with chemicals to make it taste or look good, the rise of cancers in the last few years have been linked to these chemicals.. so I now look at packets and cans more carefully before buying.
My eyes as a child saw the world as a big wonderful place, now I see the world in a totally different way. I love to see nature in all its glory, but alas I have also seen cruelty greed intolerance and hate.
Dogs in Mexico being executed by electrocution to control the numbers.. In other countries they are shot in the street and left to die. Donkeys in Eastern countries being made to work without water until they drop.
Women and children abused.. men turning in to rapists and bullies... Yes I see the world very differently now.
I stay strong for my family and I am loyal to my friends, But the person who I was...
The see no evil irresponsible person has gone.
Its good in some ways and sad in others..
The person who I am now, is strong, aware, capable responsible and loving to those who deserve it.
Life does change us.. sometimes for the better.. sometimes for the worst

I think we have the same "consciousness" inside but it is coloured by our experiences, cultural impressions, people we have met, trials and tribulations. We gradually 'grow' a different outlook based in what has happened to us. This tends to revise our "ideals" about people, life, politics etc. We can still be open-minded though.
For a few years in my teens I was a "working class martyr," not a Marxist, but I did have all kinds of idealistic notions about how the world should be. I would entertain very few idealistic visions or hopes now... It's the price of knowing that you croak before you can change the world lol

I think people change as time goes on as life's challenges changes and you must adjust along with it. I mean look at all the technology we have now compared to years ago, I remember times before computers and cellphones, now we have hard time living without them. Personally, I am more tolerant than I was years ago, I see a little more grey than just black and white, due to understanding not every circumstance applies to all people and their upbringing etc. I still have my standards I won't budge on, but I know I have changed my way of thinking from years ago. tc Lost

What you are now is not what you were before, you can never go backward because the past simply does not exist now and besides the set of circumstances in the world differ now than in the past.
We are all just what we are now in reality in total.
We can hold onto certain core values but those do not represent the total you!

Life experiences .are good and sometimes bad,,,We have to take both and learn from them ...and show our children , by example .. how to enjoy life ..and cope with the other eventualities :)  The more Travelling we do ..the more broad minded. we become ..and Open minded too . hopefully:)

I can see the evolution of my own character based on the books I have bought over the past 15 years. I think if everyone put their books on their shelves in the order in which they bought it, it would show a trend in the changes in their own lifestyle. Try it,
