Hey folks, have you looked at the calendar lately? Here we are into August already this year, and it's only 4 months until Christmas!! You may say that's too early to think about it, but with the income crunches most of us are encountering, we need to think ahead. BTW, I saw Christmas trees on sale and lit at Hobby Lobby this week! All ornaments were displayed, and they were definitely into the holiday season already here in August.
I'm thinking perhaps this year gas cards will be a big hit as gifts. It really is welcomed by most people. I hear how the motels are giving out gas cards to those who drive on vacation to their locations, so why not for a present as well? Of course, if you've got the cash, somebody can buy me a hybrid car!!
I just cannot believe summer is almost over. We've got another month to enjoy the pools, then it's back to the routine of preparing for the holidays and cold weather. Sigh. Yes, we do get pretty leaves in the fall, but that's just preparing us for the doldrums we're anticipating as winter approaches. Speaking of which, wonder if we should keep our metal snow shovels in safekeeping. Someone stole my garden hose nozzle - do ya think for recycling the metal???
Anyway, my thought for the day is how we will be thinking ahead this year in anticipation of holiday expenses. I know I'm going to start buying my kitchen needs ahead of time, pick up a few as I see them on sale so the expense isn't so bad all at once when I do my holiday baking. It's going to be very hard for many families to manage it this year, and they say the food banks are down to nothing with so many people jobless. It's sad. Perhaps it's a good time to reflect on the real reason for Christmas, and to just enjoy the spirit with family get togethers. We really need to hang together to support one another as we go thru these hard times.
So despite the hot weather we are all encountering now, especially down south, we are heading towards the end of the year. Then we'll be hunkering down in our flannels and watching it snow and snow and snow and snow.....
