Disappointments are to the soul what a thunderstorm is to the air. -- Friedrich Schiller Ah, to wake to the magnificence and fury of Mother Nature with her loud bursts of rumbling thunder and short bursts of vivid and bright lightning bolts. Now, before you say anything, I love thunderstorms.. love, love, love 'em, even though my Nana did her best to scare the bejesuz outta me. She told me that someone in Heaven had gotten under God's skin and He was tossing heavy barrels to get the frustration out before He went and dealt with whomever put that bug under His skin. My granddad used to tell me it was just the angels bowling!!!
I, being the stubborn-headed Slo(Slovak)Lithwak(Lithuanian)man(German) decided I didn't give a rat's patoot which of them was correct, I liked it! It fascinated my feeble little mind and I would sit and watch the lightning whenever I could sneak away and do so. I had to sneak off because they were always worried about my getting hit by a thunderbolt (my Baba had been struck by lightning twice in her life.. once when shutting the window, and once when she was out in the field taking shelter under a tree) - imagine those odds!!
We have had quite a few thunderstorms this summer, but none of them ever brought enough rain or lasted long enough. It seems that they arrive with a vengeance and leave with their tails tucked solid between their legs. Kinda disappointing to someone that is enthralled with the show that Mother Nature can and does give us for Nada, Nil, Zilch, Zip... now, I ask you, where else can you find such entertainment for nothing? Certainly not concerts, which are my one of the finer things I enjoy!
God knows, I missed the Toby Keith concert on Friday.. can you believe that the tickets were going for as much as $200??? Of course there were lawn tickets that could be had for a mere $60! Now, as much as I love Toby, I cannot see paying that kind of money for a few hours and being so far away that you need binoculars and then struggling with traffic leading out of the venue for 2 hours. Usually, when they have concerts I can actually afford, we tailgate after the concert for about an hour to let the traffic lighten up. Tis why I love my Fairs... the Allentown Fair... the Bloomsburg Fair. These places get big names (Allentown has Toby at their fair and the tickets are only $65 for seated row tickets, unfortunately the day he will be there, I have other plans) and they are also having ZZ Top with Brooks and Dunn (count me in on that one) and at Bloom I already scored fourth row tickets to Lady Antebellum and Sugarland.
I will leave off of my ramblings here with a link to Toby's Newest Song: She Never Cried In Front of Me...
Toby.. Yummmmm
Oh, oh, oh, I forgot .. you are all not gonna believe this.. but.. Darius Rucker from Hootie and the Blowfish has gone country and I love his newest release.. "Don't think I Don't Think About It"... his voice is mellow and sweet.. enjoy:
Darius!!!!
and a short joke just cuz gramps woulda loved it...
A little girl asked her Mom, 'Mom, may I take the dog for a walk around the block?' Mom replies, 'No, because she is in heat.'
'What's that mean?' asked the child.
'Go ask your father. I think he's in the garage.'
The little girl goes to the garage and says, 'Dad, may I take Belle for a walk around the block? I asked Mom, but she said the dog was in heat, and to come to you.'
Dad said, 'Bring Belle over here.' He took a rag, soaked it with gasoline, and scrubbed the dog's backside with it to disguise the scent, and said 'OK, you can go now, but keep Belle on the leash and only go one time round the block.'
The little girl left and returned a few minutes later with no dog on the leash. Surprised, Dad asked, 'Where's Belle?'
( YOU'RE GONNA LOVE THIS!!!!!!!! ! ) v v v v v v v v v v v v v
The little girl said, 'She ran out of gas about halfway down the block, so another dog is pushing her home.'

You've done it again...
I swear I get so tired of "all sounds alike" country music - and I've never been a big fan of Hootie and the Blowfish...
but...
I like that one!! I listened to some of the live promos Darius did for country stations, and heard another cut from the country CD. Excellent stuff !! And I was impressed by those he named as his favorite country genre singers... Lyle Lovett, Alison Krause, Dwight Yoakam - all those out on the edge that I like so much. Not what I'd have expected from someone who did an awful drone like: I Only Want To Be With You...
I forgive him... but that joke... I laughed, but I didn't want to...

Darius has a great voice...and I think I like him much better in this type of setting...I heard that song on the local radio and thought it SOUNDED like him for a moment, and then I thought...naw...Darius Rucker wouldn't be doing COUNTRY.... Thank you for clearing that up... And as for the dog joke... PRICELESS!!! Storms scare the crap out of me now, but you know why from a previous e-mail... I will get to like them again eventually...just not THIS summer... My ex used to sit right out in the middle of major storms...and get so excited wanting me to join him. That was in the beginning of the marriage when I worried so much about lightening striking him.... Towards the end of that long marriage I prayed that it WOULD.... I know, that's awful to say...lmao....but it didn't and I was a shit for thinking that back then......good blog by the way!!!!

Ah-h-h-h! Thunderstorms, how I miss'em. (miss having cardinals at the feeder, too) We get a few out here, but not like it was in western NY and Ohio. My sons and I, from the time they were babies, would turn off any electronic 'noise' and head out to the porch to be entertained and awed by the sound and light show provided by Mother Nature. Tents are a great venue, as well---if waterproof. Nice read, luvs.
