Blogs and Comments

I have found it interesting when seemingly intelligent or controversial blogs are posted and the blogger must approve all comments.
I can rationalize only one comment per person – or even a demographic restriction much better than the blogger being worried about what words might be posted.

But Words are air and most are very soft breezes not the hurricane we envision or carry the earth shattering impart we hope for.

But Words are air that carry our thoughts, hopes, dreams, fears and whimsy across the either to hopefully willing and receptive ears.

But Words are air from our soul, from our mind, from our joys and from our tears.

But Words have a life all their own that needs airing.

Words do have power to entertain, to expand, to influence, to confuse and to deflect.
Words have power if we only let them in.

But words are still just air

unfortunatly people are hurt by comments some make because they do not rationalize what they said, and a blog is good way to unwind your feelings whennobody else is there,i agree with you to let comments be posted without approval, but some people are hurt by the words of others

sure, but sometimes even the air stinks! LOL I'm not saying your post or ideas stink, you are expressing yourself in a thoughtful and respectful manner. What I am saying is that not everyone does, and I would rather not have vulgar replies to my postings, so I have approval over everything. I usually do approve ALL comments, but still reserve the right to reject comments that are insulting (for no reason) or just plain vulgar. I respect other opinions, but expect them to be expressed in a civil manner. That's just my point of view.

Words DO have power. Look at the Declaration of Independence. It's just "words", but those words changed the world. Talk about a hurricane.... LOL No hurricane could ever change the world as much as those words.

Have a great weekend!

Points accepted and noted. A blogger has the option to restrict by choice but a blogger can also delete any comment that is vulgar or insulting with just reason. The blogs that are meant to ask you to think or react are asking for reaction or should be. If all you seek is a public forum tell Us all comments will be screened or not posted at all.

It is called stacking the deck. Only blogs that approve or agre with the Bloggers Blog will be posted.

so when you see a blogger like this, record his name and never read his blogs and pass his name on to friends.

Don't get in the kitchen if you cannot stand the heat.

I tend to not write comments to blogs that are on approval only, because I don't like censorship.
Yet, every blogger has and shall have the free choice of his/her settings. It is then free to me to take note of the names who censure... and not comment, and often not even read anymore....

As to vulgar, insulting and inappropriate comments.... here is what I do on my blogs:
I never delete them.... but let them stand there all by themselves... Other bloggers either let the person know how stupid he/she is with their comments, or I can write another comment underneath, or I just simply let him/her hang himself.... after a while his/her comment sticks out and everybody else can have a good laugh...

There are a few bloggers out here who censure comments carrying opinions that are opposed to theirs, or otherwise attack their opinions, They either don't approve these comments or they delete them later.
To me, it's an interesting challenge to find such comments. (If they are insulting, see above paragraph...)

So, you see, it's not just the blogger.... it's also the commenter. The latter can come out looking stupid and "dangling in the wind" when writing stupid, vulgar or insulting words, he might get chastized by other commenters.... It's their loss, not mine...
Therefore, I truly don't feel the need to censure the comments on my blog...

Some people just don't know hot to set for automatic approval. Newbies

Some want no opposing views on their blog. Spineless !

One guy said he only wants datable women to post on his blogs. Sounds like he only wants fresh dating meat, and can't stand anyone with a brain competing for it.

Personally I always auto approve, but delete rudeness ,obscenity, vulgarity or personal invective. I invite and encourage views opposit to my own. It makes a better blog, and the viewing and comment ratings on wait or auto approve types of blogs will bear out what I say.

Being a fellow blogger for many years now on here......i do believe that unlimited comments and debate were great till they changed the rules on us.....and ive always opened up my blogs to all comments.....and ive never deleated a comment ever.....which brings me to a point that just pisses me off.....aproval and deleated comments.....these people shouldnt be allowed to blog.....they only want the responces that they want to hear......let me be the first to call these people....gutless weenie-heads.....sorry for the use of strong launguage....but its a stickler for me......cookie

To ALL Thank You for your visit and ALL comments.
I have deleted whole blogs that no longer pleased me or had finished serving their purpose. But have yet to delete a comment. And do not think I would or will.

I'm not a "newbie" and when or if I ever blog, my setting is set to "approval". I feel blogs are to make a statement of what's on MY mind and I don't blog to start discussions or ask questions (because we have forums for that).

Of someone wants to make a comment to ME about the topic of my blog, I feel that I have the right to be the first one to read their opinion or thoughts...THEN I will click the "approve" button. It often gives me the chance to reply directly, via email -- one-on-one -- on MY time, MY schedule. I really don't care whether that's considered selfish. It's MY blog and I prefer taking responsibility for how I handle it. And it's a far cry from "censorship".

(I've rarely not approved comments, except when I've chosen not to post all of them under a particular blog for one reason or another (obvious trouble-making or rude comments have been denied, but they weren't necessairily directed toward me -- I have bounderies and try to stick to them). But I've also gone back to really old blogs and deleted comments in order to keep the funniest or most "on topic" remarks there -- leaving the focus on MY blog, MY thoughts. )

In addition to what SunBabe has stated above...
MD holds all posters responsible for "policing" their own blogs.
Over time, blogs have been deleted by MD when comments were out of control....especially when controversial subjects are blogged.
ALSO, by allowing comments to be automatically approved on your blogs, you are also automatically allowing comments to be posted to your photographs & for shout-outs to be automatically approved & posted. From my own personal experience, I have comments set for auto-approval & I have found comments on my pictures, that to be quite honest, I would have preferred never to have seen the light of day.
To cop an attitude because one decides to handle THEIR blog in a manner which SHOULD be totally acceptable is a bit arrogant, imho.
