Ever since the last 2 presidential elections, my oldest son and I have been battling over his being a republican and my being democrat. We do it in fun though, so nobody has hurt feelings. I sent him a birthday card while he was in Kuwait with Hillary's picture on it! Likewise, I get jokes against the democrats.
Now that he is home again, he called me this morning to brag how he saw McCain's coach coming down the highway here in Dayton, OH last nite. He said "he and John" went side by side down the highway together. Well, of course I was anxious to hear from him and how he saw McCain's bus. Only thing, I could top that one!
Earlier this week, I received an email from Obama's group asking if I wanted to send an email directly to him congratulating him on his nomination, and I could also give remarks towards his speech being prepared. So, okay, I congratulated him, and then I asked him when he gets to Washington to please do something about how people on disability cannot receive medical help (medicare) until they are on disability two years! I briefly told him my situation how I was forced into retirement due to my health, I need an operation to prevent further damage to my joints, and yet I have no health insurance until I'm disabled 2 years, and if I'm on social security, I have to wait until age 67 for medicare. Well, to my surprise in listening to Obama's speech, he referred to an Ohio lady who was forced into retirement thru an illness and needed an operation, yet had no health insurance! My mouth dropped as I heard his words. Could this be me? Maybe so, maybe not, but it all sounded like my words to him.
So when my son bragged about seeing John McCain's bus, I had to tell him my story of possibly being the Ohio woman in Obama's speech - the speech that will go down in history!! Ahhhhh, I love it when I can overtake my son's words in this regard! We both laughed afterwards. To each his own in regard to the election. I had my moment, and he had his.
