There is nothing more discouraging than being under 5' and the overhead light in the laundry room goes out. With no one to call to help - no I am not calling the fire department to help with a bulb....I bravely gathered my trusty stepstool and climbed up. The only problem, I was still about 4 inches short of the fixture.

Sooooooo, never one to turn my back on a challenge, I tested the washing machine, it was sturdy, that is if I didn't stand on the lid and made my way up. I changed that light all by myself....but.... don't tell my daughter cuz she'll say "Mom you know you could have hurt yourself.

Now if I could just reach that darn light in the 10' ceiling...hummmmmmmmmmmm

Just a little bit to bring giggles....but I really did change my light in the laundry room.

I used to have those problems...One day my son arrived over here and pulled out a "present" for me, from the bed of his truck. Even HE was excited....it was a nice 3 step ladder....no rungs...just VERY wide steps wider than the length of my feet...AND, a curved handlebar at the top so I could hang on as I climb.

I LOVE my gift....and, I'm betting, so does HE.... I don't call him to come over to change light bulbs ...or, hang pictures....or water hanging plants.....anymore.

However, the "present" came with a set of RULES...He also gave me a pouch on a rope...to put my cell phone in...I'm not allowed to climb the ladder unless I 'm wearing my cellphone....that, of course, is in case I fall "and I can't get up"....

I've got a smart son....

When I broke my ankle, I had to call fire dept and say it - I've fallen and I can't get up. I was half laughing at the time, as well as the gal who answered the call. BTW, I too now have to carry my cell phone when I got out to work in the yard!! Just because I've broken 2 ankles and a wrist, I don't know why!!
Good going, getting that light bulb in!!
