It's only 2-1/2 weeks away - my first check from Social Security to confirm I'm officially retired and a senior citizen!! I have reflected back on my working days, how I tolerated all these years of bad bosses, office gossip, driving in bad weather, boring Christmas office parties, fights with co-workers, and now I can sit there and smile. I've served my time!
Actually, I haven't been able to work since my last accident when I fell on the floor at my temp job and broke my wrist, but that's all behind me. The job loss, the surgery and rehab of my accident - it's all done and over. Now it's time to reap the benefits of being retired. Some comment how I'll be having less money, but I've budgeted myself and the benefits far outweigh all those years I've worked.
I began working when I was 16 years old, having had my mom sign for me a work permit. I went to a school where we worked 2 weeks, then school 2 weeks. From there I worked myself into a really great/interesting legal career, always improving myself as I moved up toward my goal of becoming a paralegal. In my very last job, I earned the title I truly loved and had sought all those years! Of course, I didn't plan on falling on the job, but that's the way life took me.
So to all my friends out there, I'm enjoying my coffee at McD's that has plasma tv in there right along with all the other seniors. On Weds it's off to the grocery so we can cash in our senior discounts! The car wash has senior day then as well. Yes, I'm learning all the tricks of the trade of being a senior now! Last week I was rolling in my electric cart thru Wal-Mart, waving to a handsome fella in his electric cart , when he stopped to tell me to watch people don't steal my cane out of my cart!! I cannot believe people do that!! Luckily, I don't have to use my cane often - usually the damp cold days or when I shop without the electric cart. I do have to get SOME exercise!! So I'm wondering, do I need a protective device for my cane - perhaps find one that a buzzer goes off when an intruder tries to steal it???
Now as for all those dress clothes I retained from my career, they hang in my closet waiting for church or funerals...and at my age, the latter may come more often these days. I hope not though.
Anyway, y'all have a fun-filled day at work next week, and enjoy your weekend off. I'll try to stay out of your way as you do your shopping on the weekends.

Nonie and Sophie are both familiar with those electric carts and love riding in someone's lap on them. They have offered to go riding with you and grrrrrrrrrr at anyone who even considers taking your cane from you....

Congradulations--you made it. I have until November 7th to go. Moving south around Thanksgiving--Just imagine no more -20 degree temperature--no more 3 feet of snow---no more 2 months summer Lookinf forward to the 9 months of good weather, a lake with 1000 miles of shore line, fishing (great fishing) and time for my grand babies. No Idiots to deal with at work--no work---get up when I want to, Yep, 11/07/08 is my last day.
