I am always amused (but not in a positive way) by the profiles where gals say "You Must Love Cats" or "You Must Love Dogs"

Twice this year I have been in the homes of women I met online initially who had multiple dogs in their house. The first had 9 and the second had 5. Those houses smelled so bad I had to get out as fast as I could. How can people acclimate themselves to the the stench of urine so strong it burns your eyes?

It seems in some way twisted that people in many cases have begun to give a higher value to their pets than to fellow human beings. I am amazed that in spite of world hunger among children, charity animal groups are now competing by soliciting funds on TV to feed sick and abandoned animals to the tune of "only $18 per month"

Tonight I noticed a profile which actually headlined "You must Love Goats!" That's Nuts!!!

I sold my two goats lately to my neighbors who could not stand the fact that I forbade them feeding them as they passed by and they hated the idea I planned to sell them at auction. (one day I caught them feeding my goats an entire extra days worth of rations from MY feed bin) I like goats when they are small but as they get old they get nasty and sometimes downright mean. At best they are troublesome.

Thanks for the warning, I will rush to edit my profile and take out my rule that you must love llamas. Yeah, I can handle maybe one dog or one cat and that is my limit to animals in the house. I love animals and have drove many miles at my expense to get them to their adopted homes, but sometimes more than one can be a bit much. Maybe it was the smell from having to drive them 9 hours one way that finally got to my senses

I soooooo totally agree with you.

I have some friends that had six cats in the house. They did get rid of two so now their down to four. I've tried to sit and have a meal with my friends at their house. It made me sick. Between the smell of the litter boxes and the cat hair flying in my mouth when I would take a bite of food. That was the last time I ate over there. They invite me over all the time, but I just can't take it. I've told them and it's like you said, they have put their cats above humans. I have one dog in my house. He is a watch dog and keeps me company. But he doesn't get on my couch, tables or in my bed. He is my pet and not my mate.

Though I have a multi-cat home (4, to be exact), I do have to agree with you on the lack of care & cleanliness of some pet owners. The "Must Loves" should be changed to read "Must be able to Endure" (strong odor, flying fur, slobbering saliva, & animal tested meals ).
I take pride in the fact when someone new comes to my home, if my social cat didn't come out to meet the guest, they'd have no clue I even had cats; no odor (except for the meal I'm cooking, LoL), no fur swirling thru the air (thank goodness for Hoovers!).

I have also been in the homes of people where one step is taken inside & you know exactly what pet(s) they own by the smell. To be fair, I have also been in the homes of "petless" people with kids & have been amazed at the sight: kids in dirty clothes, hair tangly, traces of food on their faces & hands, toys scattered all over the place, dirty diapers in corners, etc. Pretty sad, IMHO

So, I wonder, are those the "Must Love Children"??

I agree too, I hate it when you have animals in the house and you have dog or cat hair or the scent all over. I have pets but the dogs are seldom allowed in the house unless they are bathed and not for very long. Never if we are eating dinner. I have a cat, but He goes outside and is not allowed on any furniture and is seldom in the house and gets bathed on a regular basis too. People always assume when you have company the company wants to pet your animal, that's not always the case. So I make sure my animals are put up and out of the way. If you are going to own animals you need to make sure they are bathed regularly and their surroundings are cleaned on a regular basis and they have a kennel or place of their own to live away from the family eating area etc. We do a lot with our dogs, like take them to the lake etc. so they aren't ignored, just they aren't allowed on furniture and in the house so much. take care Lost
