A very strange thing happens to a perfectly good and healthy student that goes in to a specific trade, they are no longer able to hear.

The other strange thing about this.. is that they seem totally unaware of it.

All sense of verbal communication is completely stripped from their senses, they can see, move walk, and function in every other way, but for some weird reason, all capabilities of hearing is null and void.

Yet this proffession is a widely known trade, you can see them almost everywhere, every town, every city, every state, every country world wide.
And each and every one of them go to their jobs leaving home completely normal, but once they pick up the scissors.. they go deaf.

Yes,, I'm talking about hairdressers.

What part of "Only take an inch off".. is unheard? I was sure I said it plainly enough when I sat in the chair for my hair cut!
Im sure I wasn't drunk.. slurring.. and I know I wasn't sucking on a toffee which made my words inaudible!

This was an experience I had a while ago now, and I am considering going to the hairdressers again to have my hair trimmed.
Did you read the word trimmed?.. yes, of course you did, but I wonder if the hair stylist will hear that very important word also.

I wont say.. "Go ahead.. take as much off as you like"... or.. "Hey..go to town.. have fun with my hair.!"

And it IS my hair!.. it is not a toy or a chance for you to experiment on your latest ideas.. or inflict on me what YOU think my hair should look like.
If I want my hair chopped off inches at a time.. I'd tell you, but you wont hear that word trimmed you never do.. because the trade your'e in causes deafness.

But as it is, I am having to let myself be at the mercy of the stylist, I am looking in the yellow pages for a good one.

I am already imagining the stylist.. shapening the scissors with a wide evil grin.

Shudders......

I finally found one who can hear! LOL I've been going to her for years. But since my hair is so short anyway, a trim doesn't mean much different that a full cut! But Linda, the lady who does my hair, even came to my house back when I had broken my hip and washed and trimmed my hair as I was wheelchair bound. She recently opened her own shop and I remain loyal to her. I hope you find someone who will do as you ask and not as they please!
Good luck!

Every time I get a haircut by a woman I think about this. I tell them to "just take a half inch off" and they usually take an inch. An inch is what I really want.

I think I know the answer to this. If you ask a man how long an inch is, they will say it's about this................ long. But, if you ask a woman how long an inch is, they will say that it's about this................................. long. Why? Because guys have been telling women that an inch is waaaayy longer than it really is.

You had to bring it up didn't you!

Oh, Charli...I feel your pain, but this is not a phenomenon that I have to deal with anymore, myself.

I'm curious...do they cut your hair wet? Is it because your hair is curly & they stretch it out & pull it straight to cut it & then it draws back up? I'm like Signme...you can't hardly get my hair too short. It gets cut every 4 weeks whether it "needs it" or not. And matter of fact, I changed stylist last year...after being with the same one for almost 20 years. The gal who cuts my hair now is very conservative with the amount she takes off....last week...when she cut it she told me to feel of it to see if she got enough...nope...she had to cut some more.

You know what you should do? When you & Gregg are out & you see someone who's hair you like...ask them who they go to....or ask your friends....actually, that's how I came by going to the girl I went to for 20 years...I saw someone with a haircut I admired & asked where to find the stylist & stuck with her for that long.

Wishing you very good luck in finding someone you are happy with & can trust!

If there is one thing all stylists agree on, it is that they must NEVER let long straight hair come into fashion again, like in the sixties. Long strait hair needs no help from stylists, and even I can trim a few ends for Sweet Thang. Stylists make no money off of long strait hair. Even with your curls, it scares them.

Your hair in your photos looks great to me. I, like most men, love women with long hair. To us it speaks of sensuality, romance, and beauty. To a beautician it speaks of unpaid bills and bankruptcy, something to be discouraged at any cost, even if it is a customer angry at having her hair bobbed way to short. A bobbette needs a hair dresser, Long haired women don't.

I think it not a coincidence that your photo showing your beautiful hair also includes a man at your side.

Years ago I had long hair. I told barbers that I "would not pay" if they cut my hair short. Once I even jumped out of the chair, sending several little fellows swishing for quiet corners while a very large and angry man raged around their shop. I threw the drape, and walked out. A little theatrics is sometimes in order. You don't seem to scary, but the won't pay business might help.

I end with a warm salute you and all women with beautiful long crowning glory. Your hair, like a man, requires a bit of care, but is well worth keeping. They do, in fact seem to go together.

Do I make my point here, Ladies ?

I had a good friend once who had been a barber for 20 some years.
I asked him the same question. His answer was "We do what we think would
look good on you".

For a while, I took the electric trimmers to myself with the 3/8" guard on.
At least then I knew what I was going to get when I was done.
