My sons are living away at college right now and they came home for a visit for a few days...While they were here they were telling me about one of their roommates who is very disrespectful of women....This is very upsetting to my sons....My older son wanted to punch him out last Sat night, because he found out this guy stood on the upper balcony and spat down on a ex girfriend and also grabbed her by her arm..
My sons lived in a violent atmosphere for about a year before we finally left their dad..so this kind of behavior is in some ways personal.
They have told this kid he needs help..and if they see this behavior again they will call the police. They also told him if he keeps up this behavior to any women who come to their house he will be asked to move out. My sons are very respectful of women of any age. Actually they are respectful of most people...Its just how they are...
I am proud to see them take such a stance against the disrepecting behavior towards women....I am a very lucky mom to have such great sons.

Lack of respect for others is a sure indication of lack of respect for self.

Sometimes I'm a little worried by the lack of self respect young women have and the way they allow young men to disrespect them. It's rare to see the kind of attitude your sons have. You have a right to be proud.

I'm smiling because I remeber a similar kind of incident my son encoutered when he was in college. I told him that nothing could make a mom prouder than to hear what their kiddo has done -- the good things, lol -- when Mommy's NOT there looking over their shoulder...even more important than manners and social behavior is the witnessing of the full development "character".
Pretty cool, eh, MamaPainter?

@bsolutely right! Everyone should be treated with respect... except the disrespectful.
You are right to be proud, it's good upbringing as well as good character

You know, your sons are to be congratulated not only for learning a very valuable lesson in life, but for having the strength of character and self-confidence to actually stand up for what is right and refuse to put up with what is wrong.
That being said, it should be noted that children do not learn things in a vacuum. They can be TOLD what is right, what is acceptable - and what is not. But the things they actually LEARN...they things that then become a part of who they are, that become a part of THEIR character, well...those things are only learned if they have a good role model to actually SHOW them what is right and what is wrong.
And those two boys of yours have an EXCELLENT role model!!!!
