Everyday is a new adventure since Sunday. Latest count for this area not having electricity is 160,000 for our local company, but the help arrived today. We have lots of out of state electrical companies now sitting in their trucks at our fairgrounds waiting for their assignments. They expect to get at least 50,000 more up and running by morning. I was awakened this morning to the sound of a chain saw on another street. If it isn't a chain saw, it's somebody using their leaf blower. Another new noise - cable trucks, telephone trucks - all backing up with the beep beep beep. Yeah people - you can't sleep late around here!!
I had a doctor's appointment today - they called me at 8 a.m. to say there is no electricity, do not come and call back NEXT WEEK to reschedule!!
I worked on the backyard a little today as my foot allowed. Would you believe I had pop cans that flew in? Found some leaves with buggy bumps on them - ewwwwww that was not pleasant. Anyway, I've got another pile going in the backyard now. I'm just wondering, if we all pile the curbs full of debris - where do you put your regular trash can on trash day?
Tonight I really needed my sprite. So I ventured out again driving. I went a different direction in hopes of finding SOMETHING open! The bank is still closed, no atm service. As I drove to another business area, it seemed to appear the lights were on here and there. I spotted the gas station - it was closed. Across the street Speedway was open! Then I saw Tim Horton's coffee was open! As I looked around with full excitement, I see Wendy's with a light on! So there I went full speed ahead. I got myself a sandwich and a LARGE sprite. When I went to pay with my debit card (remember, my cash flow is gone and atm won't work), the cashier said some debit cards wouldn't work - the network doesn't seem to be fully running yet. However, mine went thru and all was in my hands immediately to devour. I was so excited, I called my aunt on my cell phone to announce I found a Wendy's open. It wasn't because I needed food - I just wanted that sprite!! (is this addiction withdrawal?)
New topic of today - the welfare people are claiming they lost all their food and want emergency food stamps. They lined up two city blocks to get paperwork today. What I want to know is why they did not just put it in a cooler with ice? Better yet, why not give them coolers and ice to save the food earlier? I realize some of these people truly are desperately needing help, but there are so many using fraud. How can they verify their lights were out? Then I looked over at Church's Chicken restaurant near the low income housing, and it was surrounded with cars all the way around the building (they had electricity at Church's)!! For those who truly needed the help, I understand - don't get me wrong because I've been there.
So that's the continuing saga here as we re-organize and continue the efforts to get back to where we were. Stay tuned.

Hey Sis; Your FIRST blog on this had me scurrying for my sisters cell number; she's a home health care visiting nurse in Franklin. Sad to say, my GrandMa Millie in MIDDLETOWN IS MISSING; her husband, my late Grandfather, IS NAMED IKE.
All about, I'm hearing about relatives roofs missing, fences gone, and how only cell phones charged by car batteries are reliable, as a form of communication.
With my electric company threatening to turn my power off on Monday for a missing $136.00, I feel TOTALLY HELPLESS.
Gawd....who'd have EVER thought Ohio would be damaged BY A HURRICANE.

They were predicting that San Antonio (I live just outside of SA in the burbs) would get 100 mph wind gusts, about 6 inches of rain. All we got was abit of wind, enough rain spit just enough to dirty my clean car and LOTS of ungrateful evacuees. Trade ya!

i remember the ice storm that hit southern ohio in february 2002. a lot of people lost electricity, myself included. didn't have a cooler, car, or ice...but i did put some of my frozen stuff in a box and on the carport on a table and covered it. it kept it cold enough until i could use it.
i lost half of the food in my freezer, but i was able to save half. so not too bad.
