as someone, who very seldom gives out unwarranted compliments, i'm befuddled by popular bloggers blind followers on matchdoctor. if / when a popular person blogs about a touching or risky subject, their followers yell, "bravo" or pledge their undying support. never do the blogger's "friends" leave a negative, albeit constructive / helpful comment. a "real" friend would tell you that you are / were wrong, and need to change that aspect of your life. a real friend will not let you keep making the same mistakes. or not...

There used to be a girl called Aniana here (also from Michigan, btw) who had similar issues as you've related. When anyone mentioned anything about her reactions and negative/oh woe is me blog subjects, she'd generally retaliate -- often crudely -- via emails and sometimes even publicly, under new screen names. And then she'd wonder why SHE didn't have any friends, muchless "real friends": it was always everyone else's fault. (I hope she's getting professional help now...her jealousy, obsession, and escalating outrage and personal paranoia was way beyond normal "social discourse" )
Perhaps someone who blogs about "a touching or risky subject" is seen by others as being true, open, and honest. Isn't that what blogging is about? -- not the comments but letting other people know the person who's behind the screen name. I say "Bravo" to them...even if they're not always my "friend" and even if I haven't told them directly.

Somebody piss you off?
I think a "real friend" would do just the opposite. Let you find your own path and natural course.
They'd let you make your own mistakes and only helo you learn from them AFTER the fact.
Afterall, without having the opportunity to make those mistakes, where will you learn your life's lessons and gain real life wisdom?

or not...
I'm with you that a real/true friend addresses issues to help a person along their way. However... & that's I believe the "key", addressing such issues is probably best approached in a private e-mail.
On the other hand, there have been blogs where people have openly stated they were seeking advice where I've offered my "assistance" and I guess it wasn't what they "wanted" to hear so... I didn't get posted. There are those who simply want validation moreso than growth.
Here's to all "Be all that you can be...." (tune of commercial - in the army ) then again.... or not
