Last Saturday evening, Gregg and I went to the Alamo cafe for dinner, we sat outside by the pretty pond and trees, sipped on margaritas and really enjoyed the relaxing evening.
Little did we know what was in store for us later.
When we got home, I fixed us both a drink and we sat outside on the back porch and watched the dogs play.
Suddenly, Caesar goes nuts and runs to the front of the house followed by Rome. Gregg went to investigate what all the commotion was about because by now, both dogs are going crazy at the gate.
"It's a woman!".. I heard Gregg shout back to me,
"What does she want?" I asked, getting out of my seat to see what was going on.
Before I could turn the corner to go to the front, Gregg appeared with a young woman about 30 years old, she was hysterical and she was bleeding profusely from her nose.
"Can you help her dear?" Gregg asked as the woman began to turn her hysterics in to tears.
"Of course!" I said.. I took the woman in to our bathroom and cleaned her up the best I could. She told me her name and that she had been beaten up by her boyfriend. She explained that she had accepted a dance from a man in a bar and when they got in the truck to go home, her boyfriend began punching her in the face. She had got away and ran across a field to the road on the other side where she tried to wave down traffic for help, but no-one would stop. Just then she saw Gregg in our yard correcting our barking dogs, so asked him for help.
I asked her if he had done this type of thing before, she told me that he had pushed her over before but never punched her. She went on to say that she should have known right there and then that it was likely to escalate but had hoped it wouldnt.
After cleaning her up the best I could, I got her a glass of water and sat her down in the lounge with me while Gregg called the Police.
When they arrived, which was only about 10 minutes, they took all our statements.
One officer advised her that she must go to the emergency room to have the assault recorded as an injury. She said she didnt want to go and only wanted to go home. I calmly told her that she must go, and that she should ask for a protection order.
The officer said I had given excellent advice, she thought for a moment, then agreed. She borrowed Greggs mobile to phone her family to let them know what was going on.
Shortly after, the paramedics arrived and said her nose was swelling and it was quite likely broken. They took her in to hospital straight away. As she lay on the stretcher being taken to the ambulance, she waved to me and thanked me.
After the paramedics and the police left, her family arrived at the door.
They thanked Gregg and I very much for what we had done for her and said we were "Good Christian folk"
I smiled and said we just did what we thought was the right thing to do.

Bravo... it's about time people put themselves aside to help others who need it. All too often people are in fear of gettin involved so they just let it go. How can some poeple live with themselves knowing they could help and didn't ??
Kudos to you 2 for doing what was RIGHT !!

Charli, I'm sure that was just as shocking as it was weird. Yes, good on you & Gregg for helping the gal out...no doubt she needed a helping hand.
And, btw, I don't mind the bold type at all.
