Some of the scammers are getting harder to catch. I am pondering a grammatical question... I get a lot of notes that say: "I will like to know more about you." I generally assume that's someone with poor english skills that has stolen someone else's profile since the profile is properly written. Also.. instead of saying "I am (insertnamehere)." They say "Am (insertnamehere)". They occasionally misspell or leave a word or part of a word out.
Are people just really bad typists? I know that not everyone is a great typist or speller... a LOT of people routinely use bad grammar. How do you guess if it's real or not?
I'm genuinely asking... how do you decide when to write to someone who has written to you? I hate it when I write to someone and they don't respond... it's like asking someone to dance and they just ignore you. I don't really want to make other people feel that way.
Here are some of my rules for not answering:
1. When they insist they can't communicate on here but MUST chat on yahoo.
2. They begin with my friend (insertnamehere) is a member and is showing me how to do this.
3. When the grammar and spelling is CLEARLY wrong for an english speaking person, unless they are Italian, Asian, Spanish or something and I find that's true via the 3 questions rule.
4. When the profile says they are 5'5, 260 lbs, slim and trim or words to that effect. Let's just say that anyone who has contradictory stuff in the profile.... Like, I'm blonde, blue eyed and african american.
5. Sadly enough, anyone who says they are in construction.
6. Anyone who says their job allows them to travel a lot.
7. Anyone who says they are coming to my area in the next six weeks and want to meet me.
8. Anyone who starts with Hello Pretty.
9. Anyone who raves about my beauty.
10. Anyone who offers to be the father of my children.
11. Anyone who goes off on religion and how nice it is I'm a god fearing woman... clearly they didn't read my profile!
When I DO answer them is when they make a comment that shows they read my profile and know what's in it.

I agree with all the signs you mentioned Wolfmist. The bad thing is when you write a list such as you did you have now given them instructions on how to write the perfect email to scam someone. I mainly go by gut. If it doesnt look right, sound right and smell right (lol) they get blocked and reported.

wolfmist,
If I may raise another issue which fits into the scammer theme here for if MD would follow a filtering system based on such rules the site could possibly be a comfort community for one. However, I wonder if and/or how readily MD users report this kind of rubbish in which fills their mail box and if MD when a report is made takes that report into consideration.
I doubt it and if such operation of reports are being made and taken into consideration of a daily bases it is not enough to combat the scammers for they come in droves.
All in all, and what might blow your mind, the scammers must be getting hits using such tactics. How frightening is that?
pastashell.
Side Note: I am not for the construction rule you may have to enlighten me on why that is a rule for you but the rest of the rules pan out for me along with, anyone asking for pictures to flat out getting someone’s phone number asking me to call them. There have also been some e-mails sent me way on the defiling mark of were someone comments on me primary profile picture telling me that I look like a twelve year-old child and that they would like to engage in sexual tidings with me for such sexual tidings with me would be like f***ing a twelve year-old child as they put it and furthering it with the understanding that such doings turns them on. One e-mail on such matters was bold enough to say that I would like it and that I could look to him as I was f***ing me father.

Wolf, those are pretty much my rules, too.
Lately, most of my email on this site has been from scammers or pervs :-< A decided turn for the worse.

The emails that I get are actually comical, or at least they are to my sense of humor.
I vote for us to privately communicate our most witty responses to each other.
