Do you really think her answer's were as stupid as Ms. Carolina's? Um, no. See, it was what's known as humorous exaggeration.
Incidentally, I take issue with people who so lambasted Miss South Carolina as "stupid". She was a young girl -- remember, it was Miss Teen South Carolina -- blindsided by a question she wasn't prepared to answer in a very high-pressure situation. Anyone who's never found him or herself blathering through an irrelevant, incoherent response in such a situation is very lucky.
Of course, I wouldn't vote her into office, either.
I know you were joking, but I hope you have more respect for your G/F Strange that you would even ask. How does her being a woman figure into this? If I'd posted a similar thing about Obama or McCain, would you take it as a comment on men in general? I do think that any potential major political leader should be able to converse about major topics of interest -- such as examples of her own running mate's leadership ability -- with some degree of familiarity -- far more so than I think a potential Miss (or for that matter Mister) Teen USA need be able to discuss the reasons for the failures of geographic education.
Anyway, my brilliant girlfriend, who gets credit for having made this connection, scooped Andrew Sullivan on this one.
