I haven't written about Vintage Base Ball or blogged for that matter in awhile, mostly because this was a very disappointing season. Disagreements with a player and a manager who either didn't care or sided with the other player was very frustrating and it seemed my efforts to improve and help the team improve were unappreciated . Finally I lost my temper (and I don't usually lose my temper). I swore at the player in question before a game, and an incident like that in vintage base ball (especially on this team) is roughly comparable to a modern player assaulting an umpire. Strange in a way because in the 1860's the era the teams in this area portray that wasn't an uncommon occurence. However there is a bright side to this. I've begun to set things in motion to start my own team for next year. Right now it consists of a name and a couple of players who will probably join my team next year. However it also looks like my team will be working with the other team in the area. If so it will help my team get started and the other team to get independence in scheduling from my former team. So in short I'm cautiously optimistic for next year though it will take some effort this fall & winter.
