Disclaimer: There are some connotations of faith included in this blog, and there is absolutely no way I have any intention trying to convert the non-believers, those that choose not to follow a certain spiritual path, or those that have other beliefs.. this is merely my choice.. it is a nation of free will..
Someday....by Nickelback
Listen to this.. read the words of the first verse... it fits .. even in today's world. There should have been people that wanted to change what they saw when they saw the signs.. not keep on commenting about raising flags and then letting it go.
More and more, I see the lack of empathy that is becoming more prevalent. And of course, I am not a moron, I understand that you take care of yours first, but after that is done, after the basic needs are met of those you love and respect (family & friends) daresn't we extend our hand to those that have less?
Do we allow those with the inflated egos, the self-bolstering preening to continue to be the loudest voice forever? I watch on a daily basis while good, honest, hard-working people are never given any form of recognition except when they make an error, do something out of the norm, that causes those with the inflated egos to jump up and point to that quieter, humbler person and announce to the world just what they have failed at.
I grew up on a farm. My granddad, the farmer (not the coal miner) used to talk with me a lot when he was doing chores with the animals (as I was always underfoot, but instead of scolding me, he learned to step differently and what he got from that, he told me when I grew older.. the adoration of a child learning). I learned that if you scold an animal long enough and keep telling him no, or pass it by because it is not the finest of the bunch, it learns to cower, it learns to be meek. He always said, "C, it takes nothing away from you as a person to find a moment of time to smile, talk, (and for the animals, pet) someone that maybe doesn't stand out from the crowd, isn't the one seeking the most attention, but hangs back and waits, looking at you for one tiny spark of encouragement... don't think in terms of minutes, hours, etc... think of the life you could be changing/saving".
Coming from a really modest family (coal miners, farmers, loggers, seamstresses) I was always taught the basics in life were what mattered. Being honest and true, telling each person in your life how much they meant to you on a daily basis, earning an honest days living by working to your highest capability. Owning up to your own responsibilities and when you are incorrect, not shifting the blame to something else, but admitting that you are indeed, human. Earning enough to keep you & your family's needs met, but not hoarding or coveting that which you knew you could not afford or need. Paying your own way and never expecting something for nothing. Then concentrating on doing something that would help others with your remaining chunk of time in the day.
This world has changed so much since I was that tiny little girl who was fed the beatitudes around the table when we sat down to eat:
They are simply stated, but are profound in meaning. They guide. They point. They teach.
The Latin word for blessed is beatus, from which we get the word beatitude.
The beatitudes are found at Matthew 5: 3-12
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall possess the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. My heart hurts most for the children that will grow up in this time. We, as a nation are hurting big-time. This is the darkest of darks that I have witnessed. Even the air raids from the time I was a youngen in school cannot compare to what the nation has been delivered into. I fear for them... as for me, my time is not as long, and though it may mean that I will have to put off my retirement yet again, I am still more blessed than so very many. And I truly don't need any fancy schmancy things.. just the basics .. I was taught by the kindest and warmest of teachers how and why that is what is important.
Have a nice Saturday all...
