This is a short blog, but an important one.
Before you scoff at the message, keep in mind that in August of 2001, my sister called me from Houston to tell me that she was flying to Atlanta on September 11, to visit my parents, and then driving up in a rental car to visit me. Don't know why I said this, but I instantly responded, "Don't fly on September 11. There will be Moslem terrorists using passenger planes for terrorist attacks on that day." She took my advise and flew in on the eighth of September. On the morning of 9/11 knifes were found hidden inside of several seats on the Delta jet that she would have taken to Atlanta. Little sister has been very attentive to my advise since then.
At any rate . . . during the past two weeks the FDIC has quietly shipped boxes of signs to banks around the country that announce a Federally mandated one week closure of all financial institutions and credit operations. No one in my humble social sphere knows if these are a precaution or a plan - only that the signs exist.
Three wealthy clients of my architecture practice, who have owed me a lot of money for a long time, all wrote me recently that they would pay me after October 6. Of course, this may be a coincidence, and also more BS from them, but it is, nevertheless, suspicious. I have also been getting reports from friends around the country of seeing large cash withdrawals by people waiting in the line in front of them at banks late last week. This may also be coincidence.
Today (9/6/2008) the stock market is collapsing again. Who knows what the remander of the week will hold? I can not follow my own advice, because all of my cash assets are in the form of debts owed me - not a good thing. However, if anybody needs a body guard or an expert in woodland/coastal survival, I will work for food!

Having a one party government composed of Democrats in the long run would be just as dangerous as the situation we had between 2000 and 2006. When Georgia was run by the Dixiecrats, there was just as much corruption as there now is when it is run by the Republicans. The only difference is that in the old days, the money flowed to the Boss Hogg's (county political bosses). Nowadays, Georgia has gone $400 million in the hole by paying out goodies to suppliers and corporations who donated to their campaigns.
When we had our most progressive leadership in Georgia, we had moderate Democrats at the helm, while extremist Democrats and Republicans provided a system of checks and balances. That is the way our founding fathers, who wrote our Constitution entended government to operate.
My personal opinion is that socialism on the scale of the United States would only work with an authoritarian government. However, certainly cooperative communities are a safe scale to carry out social experiments as along as the are in the environment of a democracy.
