Lehman sought millions for execs while seeking aid
By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS, Associated Press Writer 52 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - The now-bankrupt investment bank Lehman Brothers arranged millions in bonuses for fired executives as it pleaded for a federal lifeline, lawmakers learned Monday, as Congress began investigating what went so wrong on Wall Street to prompt a $700 billion government bailout. For the whole story:
The rest of the story...
When is enough enough for the rich? How can you possibly spend millions of dollars a year as a top executive and have more than one luxury home, a fleet of cars, house staff, vacations, etc., and still not be satisfied in life?
If it were in my power, I would take all the toys and posh lifestyle that the top executives of the companies involved in this ginormous scam.. (and trust me, if you are getting paid as much as they were, and making such unsound decisions as giving NINJA loans [no income, no job or assets]) and liquidate them .. give them a modest house, a car, and maybe 10% of what they have in the bank to live on. This is more than most people have.
The brunt of this fiasco will fall squarely on the shoulders of the working classification of people, once again. What motivates people to become so greedy, to want so much in life? How can you possibly spend this in good conscience and watch some of your own neighbors barely getting by? Knowing full well they do not have health coverage, God forbid they ever get really sick... will you take some of your millions to help them? Will you turn your back while you see their children in rags, will you stand there in your luxury house, with your expensive car and staff watching them eat from garbage cans, sleep outside in the cold and not feel anything in your heart? What the hell is wrong with you? Basic needs is all anyone should need. I begrudge no one having some nice things in life, but when does too much become too much??

I have absolutely no sympathy for the top dogs at Lehman Brothers..... they still come out smelling like a rose. I wonder if they still would have filed for bankruptcy protection of the government had agreed to bail them out and how much more money would the top dog would have walked away with?
let me get out my little violin and play a really sad song........

As my guitar gently weeps
Its sad that even with computers that cant give anyone an answer as to what the
hell is going on. Every transaction made by these companies is on some computer
what we need is some transparence.. I heard the F.B.I. Has alot of this information
already

those in power have made more than enough to isolate themselves from the sight of those that will suffer and pay the price of their greed and insolence. they don't deserve a modest house, or any conveniences. after all, they DIDN'T care anything about the millions they cost others, or the homes or anything else others are going to lose. as a society we look for loopholes that allow us to take advantage of the system,,, and others. we don't exhibit any compassion for others.

I'm with ohtay up there...
All that wealth ought to confiscated and used to repay the bailout... After all, they take the property of poor people who deal or possess drugs...
... and now we find the bailout isn't even working...

why feel sorry for them?.. that SUIT at the top of Lehman will never spend all the money he got when he was "fired".. I asked my mom this evening.. just what is going to happen to us?.. my folks live at poverty level.. if my papa B has one more heart surgery, it could wipe them out.. I live BELOW poverty level.. yet I can't get help for medical bills or meds..

Some of this has to do with how our society defines "success" using an economic spectrum and not a full spectrum. Take a look at the book "The Bitch Goddess Success" even our founding fathers and others throughout history warn about this limited measuring system of defining success.

I want to thank everyone for their comments here.. and to those that might believe I am feeling any remorse for this executive...
I think some people thought I had some sympathy for this man.. I never even came close to feeling any nor did I want it to sound as though I felt sorry for anyone. I simply cannot just cast anyone out in the streets also... there is a part of me that would feel I then became the bastard they were. Genetic flaw in me.
And by modest house, I meant one that had the basic necessities.. walls, bathrooms, etc.. nothing more.. and the car, one with problems like the rest of us own.. so they could understand how hard it is to juggle heat versus repairs to get to work to pay their bills.
I sometimes think with my gut and heart, and I find that the greed of the people that are in charge of the Nation my grandparents tried so hard to found, working menial jobs, but proud of their honest day's work seems so insignificant to those sitting in $14 million dollar houses, arriving at work in private helicopters when my own grandfather couldn't even get black lung compensation for working 40 years in a mine.
My heart hurts for the coming generation. What lessons will they be given? That the more people you put the screws to, the better you will come out in the end?
God must be crying... my sympathy goes to Him and His children who Walk The Line and do as He asked. Work hard, Do Not Hate, Are Honest and Love with their entire being.
Thank you for your input.
