..just a Winsome ..little Poem : ~~Softly strumming, lost in Song;;;; Heedless of the Passing Throng... Seemed to me ,, his distant gaze.. Sought the Hope of better days ,,, Undernourished ,,poorly dressed.. Life had dealt him second ..best .. ..Threading chords ,, he charmed the Air ... In the busy Subway .. where.. Now and then .. a Head would ..turn .. Something of his skill ,discern ... Old familiar Blues he crooned... Telling of a Life ,, Marooned .. Yet ..no Lyrics could convey All his heart . might wish to say ~~and ..far too soon...along came a Train .. Left me Pensive for a while ... Trying hard to Reconcile .... Talent .on the Subway .. ..with all the Artists found ,,on TV.. Ego-..rich ...but talent free....................................................

I knew that street musician. His name was Loyd Bryant. He could sing and play any song. The music flowed from his fingers to the old flattop guitar he carried everywhere with him. It was his wealth, his only wealth. He was a drinker and one day he came to visit without the old flattop. Times had been so hard he sold it. I never heard him play again. With so much non music being recorded there should be a place for people like Loyd. Maybe those street musicians are the keepers of the flame.
Nice little poem.

That's really sweet...and the writing (mood) was perfect for it..
We have them here, but they are mostly in the larger cities...New Orleans is a great place for that...

Heck, that was me, some twenty or thirty years ago! I started out playing on the streets...that's how I learned to really play the guitar, instead of just strum a little.
Although I already knew quite a few chords, and how to properly tune the guitar (always important, that is, and a skill I wish more players possessed!) I hadn't really gotten into it all that much. But then, one rainy, cloudy and almost desperately deserted afternoon, this guy was sitting and playing under the awning of the street stage (this was on the old Sparks Street Mall in Ottawa, Canada, way back in the late '70s) and I was walking past with my guitar in its case; he asked me if I wanted to jam, and I said, "Sure, why the Hell not?" (It's not like I was [or still am] painfully shy or anything )
Despite the wet weather, we ended up making $40 each in the next 90 minutes!
And the rest, as they say, was history.
Even after I started playing in bands, which happened within the first couple of years...(hey, what can I say...I learned fast)...I still liked to play on the streets occasionally...there's a certain intimacy, an immediacy and an outright honesty to the street audience that you won't often see in pubs, clubs and bars, although festival audiences are more like street audiences...
If you don't keep 'em riveted, they'll just walk on to the next act
Would I go back to playing on the streets? Not bloody likely, not these days, when guys I know have been literally swarmed for their guitars, and in broad daylight to boot!
People these days...no respect!
Just my .02's worth, sincerely, "Mac"
