It is refreshing (NOT) to know that we are training gang members and convicted felons and the like in using some of the most sophisticated weapons in the world .
How much lower can this country sink to ?
Bring OUR troops home from Iraq NOW while they are still alive.

This has to be the single most retarded blog that I have seen on ANY website.
Because the military (according to one author) hasn't been proficient at proper screening of recruits...the ARMY should somehow bring the troops home?? From where? Iraq?? Korea?? Japan?? Germany??
How does improper recruiting correlate to bringing troops home
This country is only sinking low because they allow some people the freedom of speech to blog nonsense...

It is refreshing (NOT) to know that we are training gang members and convicted felons It is funny that you first complain that the military is training soldiers who are gang members and convicted felons. Then you turn around and say Bring OUR troops home NOW while they are still alive ! So why are you so anxious to bring these gang members and convicted felons home?
I was in Iraq for nearly 2 years. And as a member of the Army for 20 years I can safely say this to you. We can not come home until the job is done. To do so would be an insult to those who died, got injured and sacrificed for their country, not to mention we would have to go back later on because Iraq was not able to defend itself and terrorists took over the country.
I suggest this. Instead of mocking who is serving in the military, you should be thanking them that they are putting their lives on the line so you can have the freedom to make idiotic comments like the one you made here.

This blog is from the same person who said Iraq didn't agree to this war. When in fact they agreed before the war, to become Democratic, to the rebuilding after the war, and to institute a new constitution and Government. Surely this took great planning, with countries all around Iraq as to the method of entry, proper airspace and so forth. This was definately planned with the Government of Iraq as they built up their armies to work with ours and our allies, and anyone who doesn't think so, has their head in the sand. tc Lost

It's nice to see that TWO of the biggest nutwings on this site have checked in Yeah well rumor has it nutwing one and two are one in the same. The specialty being harrassment, and intimidation. So close to the same said tactics the goverment used to perpetuate this mess.
(and before we have to get into the verbage debate of using the term harrassment....yes I do consider being threatened with my phone calls being listened to and my emails being scanned for such covert verbage as "patriot" and "constitution" harrassment. I also consider fear tactics such as "we have to stop this terrorism", "there are WMD", and lets not forget the newest, "we have to pass this 700 billion dollar bill fast, so there is not a market meltdown" as intimidation. ( like there wasn't already going to be a meltdown ))
Anyway now that I have that off topic rant off my mind....
Your quote was taken from the Military Times and if anyone gets to talk about admittance qualities of the new volunteer Army I think they can be considered qualified. If further proof as to what the article is saying needs to be established....look at the conditions of the barracks these days. Most vets from the Nam era wll tell you if their barracks looked like that with cracking paint, and plugged up toilets, they would have been on their hands and knees with toothbrushes.
There is a breakdown of the discipline. Armies are our young men and women, there will always be some kids are troubled. But a good chain of command, and discipline was always able to keep things in line. Not anymore. Non coms are buddies, and officers don't want accountability. So they are losing thier authority. A bunch of kids, put together in hostile circumstances...with no authority..long duty asignments, yeah I imagine they are running amuck.
But then I read that they are considering negotiating with theTaliban, and it just reinforces my belief they are just filling slots with warm bodies and spending more money. The war on terrorism has moved home, the gangsters are on Wall Street, the syndicate is syndicating and we are the bad guys because we don't want to pay for it anymore, and have the audicity to start speaking out about it. ( well I have always been a little on the outspoken side the congressman in my district I am sure hate seeing my phone number come up LOL ...)
Imagine that

I see the chicken hawks are out again. Well, it's the early...er..chicken that gets the scratch.. (By the way, chickens are fed.)
Where was I?
Oh yes..
Amazing these armchair warriors hire some 18 and 19 year old, send them off to fight, but would'nt go themselves.
I guess the Army is too busy looking for bullet bait to do a background check with all their nifty computer systems and all.
Meanwhile, back at the farm, the chicken hawks are too busy screwing up the stock markets, trashing the Consitution and letting us become a fascist financial market and state while sitting behind computers letting someone else do their fighting
Oh well.

Well this appears to be another case of the nutwings shooting the messenger.
Funny how the Military Times can see the connection between the unpopularity of this war and the inability of our military branches to meet recruitment goals without lowering their standards, but the nutwings cannot.
Not every individual who enlists these days is a member of the Crips and the Bloods; however, the Army started having real problems with recruitment and retention in 2005. Recruitment problems were a direct result of the unpopularity of the war. In March 2005, the Army met only 2/3's of its recruiting goal. Source: Military.com And that same month, for the first time in the history of the USMC, the Corps failed to meet recruitment goals. Source: Stars and Stripes.
Following that March, Armed Services recruitment did three things -- first, they significantly increased bonuses and secondly, when the first didn't work as planned, they lowered standards and lastly they recruited aggressively in areas with low high school graduation rates, etc. The combination of 2 and 3 produced an increase in the number of recruits who have records or some type of affiliation with inner city gangs, white supremacist organizations, etc. As reported in Stars and Stripes:
The loosening of recruiting standards has experts worried that people with criminal backgrounds, particularly association with gangs, are more likely to get into the military than before. Many of us know guys who were hellraisers as kids and were given the choice by a judge -- the Army or jail. Most of these guys straightened up and the Army played an important role in their lives, but the gang bangers now in the military are not benefitting from their service, the opposite is true.
Gang-related crime by soldiers has tripled since 2005. Last year, the National Gang Intelligence Center, an office within the FBI, issued a report on gang activity in the military. Link to full report.
Gang members may enlist in the military to escape their current environment or gang lifestyle. Some gang members may also enlist to receive weapons, combat, and convoy support training; to obtain access to weapons and explosives; or as an alternative to incarceration. Upon discharge, they may employ their military training against law enforcement officials and rival gang members. Such military training could ultimately result in more organized, sophisticated, and deadly gangs, as well as an increase in deadly assaults on law enforcement officers. The longer we continue this misadventure in Iraq, the longer the perverse incentives will remain for recruiters to sign up gang-bangers for the military.
