It sure is getting close to the elections.
The gas prices sure are coming down.
Last time they went up the day after the election, or some, right after the polls closed.
Are people really that dumb?
Will it work again?

There may or may not be a correlation, but I'm guessing there will be lines at the pumps for a day or two before the election. I'll be topping off the tanks of both of my vehicles---can't hurt.

I say it's connected. To what? I don't know...
How is it possible the American dollar has fallen off the face of the earth, the Southern states have a shortage since the hurricane, we're fighing both sides of a few wars these days, yet gasoline prices are 75 cents less per gallon than they were just a few months ago. I think we're being 'buttered' just before baking 2 hours at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

gasoline prices are coming down because as we speak there are oil freighters in dock with full loads. Nobody needs it, surplus of oil on the market. Basic economics of supply and demand.

Soon everybody will be getting their Hummers out and the supply will outstrip demand. I predict this will happen on November 3rd.
I wish I could afford to get a Hummer.

gasoline prices are coming down because as we speak there are oil freighters in dock with full loads. Nobody needs it, surplus of oil on the market. Basic economics of supply and demand. True. And contrary to what some wannbe experts here say the dollar is higher than it has been in 13 months. Oil prices are based on the US Dollar. Not the Euro. So as the Dollar continues to go up gas prices will continue to drop.
Since there is no incumbent running why would price drops be political?

what we really need for gas to come down to what price we ALL want is to expand existing refineries or build a couple new ones..

Since there is no incumbent running why would price drops be political? While George W himself is not running, the political machine that controlled him is pushing George's clone who also advocates "staying the course"
The American people may be slow to elect the mouthpiece of the party that has done nothing to protect them from the record profiteering of the gas companies at the cost of ruining the worlds economy.
They might be hesitant to continue with the party that cooperated with the plunderers of their real estate investments, 401Ks, and stock investments.

1. Those who profit most from oil's success is the federal government (by way of taxes).
2. OPEC, along with Hugo Chavez, will soon be meeting to discuss the possibility of cutting production (to increase our prices, specifically to harm us, in my personal opinion)....this according to NPR.
*NOTE: Yes, I do, from time to time, listen to National Public Radio... ...because it helps me understand why you liberals are so utterly delusional.*
So, with your line of thinking (if we may call it that), "Bush and his political machine" gives OPEC the 'green-light' to raise gas prices [once the election has passed]?
Sir, grow a brain....please.
And,
3. Regarding the "real-estate plunders", etc.:

Actually it was Ronald Reagan who spearheaded the deregulation of the petroleum industry.
Venezuela and the OPEC members produce crude oil, a separate market from that of refined petroleum products, such as gasoline. OPEC sets some producers' oil prices.
Gas compamies set gasoline (and diesel and other refined product) prices. Opec claims much of our gas price increases are due to speculation in the gasoline futures market, that is profit takers who neither refine nor produce oi, but just take huge profits. Thanks Republican Ronnie
GAS PRICES ARE SET BY GAS COMPANIES, NOT OPEC, though the cost of crude is a cost factor. .
Gas company profits are made on the spread between the two, minus processing and other costs. Gas companies set their own prices. Many of them are also crude oil production companies (in reality if not corporate structure) and so can take profit from high crude prices (which they then use to raise disproportionately greater gas prices as well as by the sale of crude oil), or by lower oil prices which still yields a profit on crude oil, but increases the spread between crude oil and gas price, thus greater profits. They win, and the public loses, both ways on higher oil prices
Government and oil companies are not separate entities. Bush was in the oil business(Tidewater among other companies) and Cheney was the CEO of Halliburton, an oil production related company before they began war profiteering by selling the government non bidded services (including meals they never delivered((but charged for anyway)) ). Can we doubt Cheney's patriorism as Halliburton moves to United Arab Emirates, safe from US law (along with childrens' benefactor Michael Jackson?
You do know United Arab Emirates, the nice folks they tried to sell five major US ports to?
