Graeme fell in the door and threw his coat at the stand where it promptly landed on the carpet in it's usual crumpled heap. It had been another long day at work, he'd spent all day writing reports which he knew would never be read but were a necessary evil. His colleagues had persuaded him to go for a "quick drink" in the Pitcher & Piano and several Becks later followed by JD chasers he staggered out of the bar and decided to get a cab home as it was more than likely he'd fall asleep on the tube.

He pottered through to the kitchen and stood infront of the fridge with the door open; the coolness brought him round a little. He needed something to eat to soak up the alcohol. Really, he should go to bed but he always felt cheated if he just came home and fell asleep; maybe because he didn't have much of a life these days. He had a good job, plenty of money, a nice home but what was the point with no one to share it with except his tabby cat Mr Choos?

He made himself a coffee and a ham sandwich and glanced over at the computer. Stargazer's pretty eyes looking up from under that blonde fringe came into his head, he felt a familiar stirring. God, he got horny these days at the slightest idea of femininity. The idea occurred to him he'd have to do something about it and quick; achieving a "semi" on the tube might get him arrested.

He pressed the computer on switch and waited. He hadn't heard from her that night but he liked what he read in her profile. They had a few things in common, which pleased him; she wasn't just a pretty face. He wasn't too worried really if she had replied or not. He'd stayed on line that evening and heard from a couple of feisty local girls who were keen to chat on instant messenger. Their pictures didn't stir him in the way Stargazer's had, but he was beginning to wonder if he'd ever get laid. "Any port in a storm" as his Grandmother always used to say with a disapproving look in her eye. He logged on to Matchdoctor and noticed he had mail.

The PC was running slow tonight, the red envelope flickered provocatively but he ignored it and and went to make himself another coffee, he really needed to sober up a little. On returning to the desk he opened up the mailbox and decided to check the mail from Foxylady & Titzalina first. One lived about 20 miles from him and the other worked just around the corner to his office, although he couldn't remember who was where. If he could get them on messenger soon he might have a date by the weekend.

The messages from both ladies sounded promising; Foxy could flirt for England and Titzi certainly appeared to live up to her name. Graeme scratched his head as he studied Titzi's photo which was more cleavage than face. He'd like to settle down eventually but didn't see the harm in a bit of fun. He hadn't slept with anyone for at least three months, a long time in his book. He hadn't felt much like it really, he hadn't filed for divorce yet. He was still getting over the shock of catching his wife in bed with his best friend; the biggest shock being the position they were in! She'd never done that with him no matter how hard he'd begged.

He sent off a couple of quick, flirtatious replies to both girls and included his messenger address. He noticed there was an email from Stargazer and was surprised how excited it made him feel. Hopefully it wasn't a polite brush off. What she'd written made him laugh; she'd obviously not checked her mail the same night he'd sent it, she hadn't a clue what he was on about with his talk of the moon. His face dropped when he read she wasn't on line for dating. What the hell was she on there for? Surely she wasn't only looking for friendship; at her age she must have all the friends she needed. It must be a coy ploy, maybe she was playing hard to get. He liked a challenge.

He wrote:-

Dear Stargazer,

You're very observant, the moon is in fact very round and white, are you an expert in astronomy?

So what are you here to write exactly? I've not really found my way around this site yet, still getting used to it.

You're not online for dating, that's cool, but why? Have you had some bad experiences. Just curious, you can tell me to mind my own business if you like. It's OK though, I'm here to make friends too. You're not far from me at The Angel and it is nice to see a friendly Brit online, I'm still fighting my way through all the Americans & Canadians. One woman who mailed me from Antarctica. What's all that about?

Thanks for replying so quickly.

Rimmer

He could see she was on line, he'd have a look around the site and see if she replied tonight.

Anna grabbed a cheese and bacon bagel from the fresh bagel shop near the Embankment on her way home from work. She took it with her, back on the Underground to her apartment.

Angel was always quiet and deserted at this time of night, it was more like a ghost station. Paddy was there on the corner selling his 'Big Issue' to try and raise some more cash to waste in the pub. Anna had never bought a copy from him before, but for some reason tonight, she decided that she would.

Anna's apartment was just two hundred yards from Angel, but by the time she got home it was already 2300hrs. She had returned to a pile of mail stuffed into the mail box, mostly junk mail she expected, she went straight into the kitchen to make a fresh coffee and to get a plate for the bagel. Espresso at that time of night wasn't such a good idea, but she had a late start the following morning, she was meeting a client at 1100hrs, so she wasn't all that bothered about the caffeine.

Anna took the pile of mail from the mail box, and sat in the lounge. The mail went with the Big Issue, unattended in the magazine rack with the rest of the mail that she had received that week.

She turned on her PC to check if there were any emails from the client who she was due to meet the following morning. There was an email from her client marked 'urgent!' The mail was to inform her that the appointment would have to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. Anna swigged back the Espresso and went to get a large glass of Italian Red.

There was also a mail from Matchdoctor so as her morning appointment had been cancelled, she decided to have a late night and play on the internet for a while.
Anna logged into md and she could see that Rimmer was still online and there was a mail from him too....although Anna wasn't an unhappy person, this message seemed to make her heart race a little.

Anna read the message with a smile on her face, the words seemed to jump from the page at her, so she replied.

Dear Rimmer,

Thanks for the mail, the moon is round again, I am overlooking the gardens behind Angel and the moon is very bright tonight.

I am not an expert, I have a skylight window though.

I have always wanted to write, I have never written anything before apart from music.

I wrote my first 'blog' today, it's a poem.

I haven't had any mails from anyone apart from you. I gave up on another dating site because of all the fakes. Yes they do exist unfortunately.

This site appears to be a lot more interactive. If I can make a few friends along the way then great!

I hope you had a good day!

Stargazer118

Anna waited patiently to see if Rimmer had read the mail. She could see that he still appeared to be online, but she realised that he must have forgotten to log out.

She finished her glass of wine and it was just past midnight.

The moon was still a moon in the sky, just where Rimmer had left it.

The following Friday afternoon was an early finish, it was a day filled with hot sunshine and Anna met with her colleagues after work in Soho Square . They sat on the wooden bench, ate some sandwiches that they had picked up from Marks & Spencer and fed the pigeons with the crusts.

After that they strolled up the road to The Wheatsheaf Pub, where they had a couple of drinks on the street tables until the sun disappeared over the roof tops.

Anna made her way home on the underground. There was a singer on the tube, he wasn't any good and he was pretending to be blind, but you couldn't buy that atmosphere anywhere. Everyone put some coins in his hat as they got off the tube.

It was still light when Anna got home, she took her shoes off and sat at the piano where she played some of her new song, trying hard to get the tune right, or the words right, she wasn't too sure on this one.

She looked up to the portrait of her parents on the wall and smiled, she was looking forward to them coming to visit from Oxford this summer. It was starting to get dark, the moon was there again.....It reminded her of Rimmer. Anna hadn't checked her mail for days.......

I like the way you write this, from Rimmer's viewpoint, then adding Stargazer's
reply to him.....

Makes me want to write about my days, but they're boring, and lonely,
and the nearest women on this site are over 300 miles away.
Hard to imagine finding one to share the story of my life with.

Good luck to both of you, looks like you've found something special.
