There has been alot of desention here recently about the candidates, and when the mud slinging goes on everyone is all up in arms about providing links to prove your point. So here are mine
Quotes taken from the second debate.
Obviously the powers of the treasury secretary have been greatly expanded. The most powerful officer in the cabinet now. Hank Paulson says he won't stay on.
Obama: Well, Warren would be a pretty good choice Debate Transcript
Warren Buffet Richest Man 2008 Buys Goldman Sachs So with Warren Buffet, Paulson, and His new appointee, don't you think there is just a wee bit of conflict of interest there? Ok so even Paulson steps down his new guy is straight from Goldman Sachs. OK so my vote for a couple of the banks left standing at the end of this is JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs.
Clark: Well, Senators, through this economic crisis, most of the people that I know have had a difficult time. And through this bailout package, I was wondering what it is that's going to actually help those people out And words of wonder from McCain.
But you know, one of the real catalysts, really the match that lit this fire was Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I'll bet you, you may never even have heard of them before this crisis. Do you really think we are that stupid?
But you know, they're the ones that, with the encouragement of Sen. Obama and his cronies and his friends in Washington, that went out and made all these risky loans, gave them to people that could never afford to pay back. Now while I would like to say that the mudslinging had some basis what about these little gems? This is a very interesting proposal. While it sounded really good at the time it had the same double speak that we are still hearing. Lets hear from our illustrious President Dec 2007
The Administration has also proposed allowing cities and States to issue tax-exempt mortgage bonds to refinance existing loans, and the President calls on Congress to approve this temporary measure quickly. Under current law, cities and states can issue tax-exempt bonds to finance new mortgages for first-time homebuyers, and this measure would make it easier for State housing authorities to help troubled borrowers How is it they are troubled borrowers now when they are first time home buyers? hmmmm, or it that to say you are ok'ing loans to folks with bad credit?
Congress needs to pass legislation to reform Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs) like Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae pass legislation that strengthens independent regulation of the GSEs and ensures they focus on their important housing mission Hope Now Fact Sheet What you are suggesting that Freddie and Fannie giving tax exempt loans with independent regulation----Like anyone really regulated them. ( this after their CEO's had been handed sopenas in Nov in an FBI investigation for bad lending practices. I wrote a blog about it at the time, but you will have to dig citation up yourselves. I don't have anymore time this morning)
Hmmmmm, and now in Jan 2008
Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, modernize the Federal Housing Administration, and allow state housing agencies to issue tax-free bonds to help homeowners refinance their mortgages
$120 million for NeighborWorks and another $50 million for HUD's mortgage counseling program. Congress has had these requests since early February, and it needs to stop delaying and get this funding to the President's desk. State of the Union Transcripts I see this administration also has non-profits it favors, and modernizing FHA....bigger government. My isn't that the accusation being throw at the Democrats? But wait this is a Republicn administratin pushing this stuff.
Another example of misinformation for campaign purposes, at least I hope it for the campaign because I am about fed up with politicians selling me a bill of good built on BS.
McCain refering to Obamas military experiance.
He was wrong about Iraq and the surge, and he was wrong when Russia committed agression against Georgia. Hold on one minute...Russia did not commit agression. Georgia was the agressor after the United states and Isreal went in for training opts, the very next day after the opts were done Georgia became the agressor, because they did not like Russian peacekeeprs in Southern Osetia. Just what the hell do you think those training opts were for?
