It just occured to me as my cat sleeps curled up on the computer desk beside me and my little dog snores loudly on the bed behind me, that maybe they are the ones that have it all figured out! When the day drew to an end and they were tired, they just curled up and went to sleep while I, the human, am sitting here bleary-eyed playing solitare way past my bedtime. Animals and babies sleep when they are tired. Adult humans tend not to listen to their bodies telling their minds that it's time to renew and refresh. Maybe animals and babies are so busy enjoying their lives that they just do what comes naturally. Adult humans are afraid they might miss something important and so torture themselves by depriving them of restoring rest. And we thought we were the teachers! Maybe we should reverse the roles. We might just learn something. I think I'll start my learning process now and go to bed.

The kids tried to teach our dog to sit up and beg.
Daisy Dog tried to show them that people give back what you give them, the value of forgiveness, loyalty, unselfishness, and not bearing grudges. She already knew how to sit up, and can con anyone out of a yummy.
Who is teaching whom? Sometime I think she is a space alien, disguised as a small dog, who came to earth to teach us how to be truly human.

Sally;
When I had cats, they TOO wanted to be on my computer desk; When they wanted my attention, they slinkily and manipulatively stretched their flexible bodies BETWEEN the keyboard and I.
While my current dog, Sammie, is small like yours, he TOO hangs out, curled up on the bed behind my computer chair.

my dog loves to go for rides in the truck, to the dirt road, so he can run behind the truck. try ang get him a 2.5 mile run every day. he's sleek, i'm not. after a run, he'll come home, stretch out and doze off. BUT, if i pick up the truck keys, he'll wake up from a deep sleep, and beat me to the door. if he misses a day's run--- rain or SNOW, he's wound up like a top, raring to go.
and yes, they have it figured out. fresh water, plenty of food, exercise, anddddddd a human to pick up their "droppings."
