Someone here once asked the question “what would you do if you did not have to worry about money?”

Or something like that. I decided to make a blog from my response, here it is.

** Warning techie, geekie, mad-scientist stuff follows **

I would develop nano-bots and launch them to the asteroid belt out past Mars. Once there they would spread out to extract materials and reproduce. When they collect a critical mass of ore, water and minerals they will swarm. This swam of nano-bots would, like a caterpillar in a cocoon rearrange material at the molecular level to emerge as a space habitat. It will take more than a year for it to arrive at L7 the final destination.

The original nano-bots carried seeds, spores, and soil bacteria. While traveling to L7 the garden will grow and food will be placed in the bins by the robotic harvesters.

Nano-bots back at the asteroid belt will continue to extract materials like frozen water, frozen gas and precious metals (water in space is the most valuable). This will be a continuous collection of materials that will be boosted to L7 to keep my new home running.

The question is what seeds would you send to your space habitat?

There will be room for friends.

Cheers,

Why not start a Dyson Sphere while you have them out there too?? Remember the pollen needs to be shared - bots for that too?? just skip mosquitoes.
