Well, I finally got some pictures of my property. Remember, I had NO intentions of driving across that dangerous bridge to go see my property so I was waiting on the insurance adjuster to send me pictures. I am going to wait for the ferry to be running before going over there. The generator for the entire Bolivar side of the ferry landing was washed away. The insurance adjuster said the ferry should be up and running in November sometime. I finally emailed the insurance adjuster asking for the pictures. He sent them right back. I tell you, that man was always on top of things.
I bet you he is a happily married man. He is right there for you whenever you send an email. FAST! Took about ten minutes after my email to get the pictures for the beach property. Hey, it is not so bad. There are still some posts still standing. I could actually go throw up a tent with a tarp and stay out there over night some time. IF they get water back. Electric would be nice too.
I had recent work done on the property. Most of it is still standing, lol! Shit. Pretty sad looking. All my plants I had planted appear to have disappeared....sigh. Hey, you can see my brand new refrigerator, washer and dryer and one of my window ac units in the picture. Too bad salt water got into it.
Anyway, they said it is a total loss and I will use the insurance money to fix this home up better. Maybe buy an RV to park on the property.
Well, in my eyes, God/Spirit bought this house from me. I did want to sell it. It was a drain of my income. Heh, I won't have to pay anyone to cut the grass again. Of course, it is actually not as expensive now to drive a hundred miles to cut it myself...if I still had grass.

I think some of my fence is still up. It looks like I now have a fence enclosed sand dune. I may go dig it out and see if it will stand back up. Uh, maybe some of my gates are still there.

Spirit after looking at the pictures......your washer and refrigerator was probably full of sand too.
Good thing you have a good insurance man.
Total loss I think is a pretty acurate description. I don't know how to respond. It is good to see you have a good attitude about it, but for me, I would stay away from Island life.

Goodness. What a shame. What a wreck. SE, I think you might have a good idea about using part of your $ to buy an RV! At least then, you wouldn't have to be worried about the house in another storm!

As one door closes, another door opens.
Take advantage of the opening doors.

Darn Spirit, plum wiped you out did it not? Reminds me of some of the aftermath of Hugo in the Caribbean Islands. But like you said, you don't need to mow the grass now. So sorry about all this.

Sorry you had to go through all that but the most important thing is that you are safe and uninjured. All those 'things' can be replaced but your safety is #1. Hang in there!!

Hey, this is why I moved from there. After Rita, it was like having a loaded gun at my head. I did keep the insurance up on it and seriously, I got blessed by the whole thing. Now I do not have to deal with fixing it up to sell.

Exactly! I can drive it down there when I want to go to the beach and even concrete the yard over and put an rv park there. BUT, I will make it a wee bit higher than it was. Actually, the land may already be a lil higher than before. I was the lowest place in the neighborhood almost. Hmmmm, that sand, I can just spread it around.
Omg, I had planned to raise the property at one time. Now, all I have to do is spread the sand! Hey, I sure hope you do not think I am crying over this. I was going to have to pay out a whole lot of money to do upgrades to sell the house.

Man alive! When mother nature gets a bug in her bum, she lets everyone know about it. I'm sorry. Hope the door that opens as this one closes has better things in store.

If you look at the pictures, one post is white with a black top and has something hanging on the top of it. It is a wrought iron table that used to belong to my mom. It was inside the house near the sliding glass door. Apparently the house shattered when the waves hit it. It slammed the table and one of four chairs onto the post, impaling the table that seems to be tangled with the chair.
The new refrig and the new washer and dryer slammed into the ground from upstairs when the floor disintegrated under them. My toilet is over to the left. It was new as well. Ugh. Glad I did not upgrade as much as all my neighbors did. I feel REAL sorry for them. Hope they were insured.

the lord does work in mysterious ways. if you were having money problems keeping up the home, then this is a definite blessing.
the most important thing is that you got out in time and were not a casualty bodywise.

Spirit, I think the idea of a RV pad is great! Shoot, you could have it set up for electric and water/sewer! You are right, sometimes you get blessed with disasters. You are one of the lucky ones. I too, feel for your neighbors.

~sigh~ I guess the best way to look at it is that you now have your own personal beach...and yep, it's definitely a wonderful "view lot" with nothing blocking that seaview -- an ideal place to park an RV, for sure (and omg, prices on those, big ones complete with washer and dryer, are around 50K or less these days! )
Go get yourself a metal detector and an assortment of shovels and sifters. You might be surprised at how many small treasures you can discover at your leisure (as long as the "pirates" don't raid the place in the meantime. )
Whew, these pictures socked me in the belly, SE...I could feel the "ghosts" of the good memories you must have had with this place.
I've been back and forth on the phone and exchanging emails with friends from St. Croix in the Virgin Islands who got slammed by Hurricane Omar this past week -- even though it was "just" a catagory 3, little of the after effects made the national news -- it was a lot more destructive than was reported in the media, unfortunately. (I'll be posting some pics in that Omar thread I'd started...Fortunately the boat I'd lived on made it through ok! )
