I’ve always enjoyed riding bicycles. I’ve loved them since I was a kid and couldn’t afford one. So this past weekend I went to Patoka Lake to meet a friend and see the Beach Boys in concert. The concert was kick ass and lasted for two hours. It was solid music and maybe 40 songs in all. I remembered all of them….when they were recorded. So it was a very good time for me. The crowd was mellow and enthusiastic and all ages. The music is truly multi-generational. But all good things must end and the concert did. I don’t expect to see them again. It was special.
So the bicycle ride was the other big plan for the weekend. The lake is beautiful and the setting is fantastic with the fall colors starting to brighten. The weather was sunny and cool and I found myself enjoying myself at least as much as I did at the concert. The exercise and scenery made me feel alive and wonderous. The company, though, made the weekend. As I look back I realize that I can do these things any autumn that comes along. The companionship is what makes it special then. I realized that I’ve been happy for the first time in years. Not just happy, but completely happy.
So here’s a blog to happiness and something of a revelation. It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you do it with the right person. Happiness is in the companionship. I wish I could give myself a kudo for this one.
