San Francisco would become the first major U.S. city to decriminalize prostitution if voters next month approve Proposition K -- a measure that forbids local authorities from investigating, arresting or prosecuting anyone for selling sex.
Proposition K has been endorsed by the local Democratic Party.

I find this interesting since -- though you seem to be acting as if this were a standard liberal thing to do -- this is far more of a libertarian cause. Liberals, in general, are more likely to condemn prostitution because of the poor working conditions for most sex workers (and the fact that many if not most are forced into it, by circumstances if not pimps).
Which is in fact the best defense of its illegality that I have heard. Honestly, it's seldom the position that I disdain, rather the inconsistency. (To be charitable, I'll call it that -- if I insisted it were reasonable to recognize the inconsistency, I'd have to call it hypocrisy instead). That conservatives decry it is another example of the selective ideology of political parties -- in theory, this should be all about the free market and individual rights, but those are thrown out the window when they seem "immoral."
But only certain immoralities. We can't legislate against profits generated by greed, sloth, gluttony or wrath (hello, Honeywell!) but we can spend millions sending sex workers through the revolving door of the courts (but doing all we can through fines and stigmatization to make sure they can never rise above their situation). Whatever, hey, when it comes to your town, vote how you like.

Prostitution is against the law. And it has been for a very long time. How effective have those laws been in protecting both the girls and the Johns? How effective have they been at stopping the spread of STD's?
Not too good.
I guess the argument for making this a viable business, is that it can be regluated, controlled, and free up valuable law enforcement resources. Beside, it is her body and his body,,,, and shouldn't they have a choice.
Frankly, I think the true reason is that someone watch an episode of the Bunny Ranch, hard what they were charging, and wigged out on the missed taxes and fees.
Never met a lib who could walk away from a pile of money yet.
Wonder if they will have training courses at the local community college?

Oh geeez, maybe because it runs so rampant in California they are just giving up. San Francisco had a whole documentary on the subject and has whole vice squads just dedicated to finding child prostitution and can't keep up with that. I just can't believe they want to make it legal, do you realize how easy it will be for them to slip a child in from time to time then? Oh poor children, more abuse will be on the rise for them, this is crazy. But like some liberals say, they want women to be able to do what ever they want to their bodies, they don't realize the laws are to protect the innocent. tc Lost
