or even an hour or two (more on that "attitude stuff")
I thought I was doing pretty well – recovering from that hernia operation. Getting ready to go back to work – A-gin.
Then in just an instant – a flash in the pan as they say. All of a sudden I went from being on my way up to sliding down the other side of the hill into a heap of crap. Well, not exactly crap, but certainly unpleasant thoughts. Made me think of a quote I once saw.... “How can I be over the hill, if I haven't made it to the top yet?” And what brought all of this on??? Other than myself, of course – my daughter had a date. My daughter had a date with an older man.
My daughter is 34. The older man is 44. Do you know how close to 50 44 is??????? The older man is now (in my mind) no longer 44. He has jumped to 50. (Rounding up you know.)
I have 50 year olds contacting me in here. I would of course never date a 50 year old. 54 is the minimum in my age bracket. But do you know just how close 50 is to 54???? Why I could end up with a son-in-law close in age to my... my.... my .... whatever he might be????? Good lord!!!! Have mercy on my soul. No that would never do!
How easy it is for me to get caught up feeling sorry for myself. And then the “what if's” set in.
What if.... I hadn't gotten sick – ever – at all What if.... I was 50 instead of pushing 60 What if.... I wasn't sitting out here in the middle of the dessert What if.... some of these nice, good looking men weren't a million miles away on top of all the afore mentioned
Yep - sometimes life is just plain rough.
I just wrote a gal friend:
I'm feeling like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally....
Sally (in tears): I'm going to be 40! (only in my case 70) Harry (perplexed): Yeah - in 8 years (only in my case 11) Sally (sobbing): Yeah, but it's THERE!!!!
I feel like I've wasted so much time being sick. I'm tired of not feeling ALIVE!!!! I'm tired of not feeling like "me".
My daughter & a guy 44???????? Give me a break!!!!! Lord do I feel OLD today.
But then....
Tomorrow's another day (Scarlett in Gone with the Wind) And this afternoon? Well, it's easy enough to think about something else.
Perhaps I'll get a shower and think of a happier time. Perhaps I'll just remember –
I ain't dead... yet!

Pat
Its none of my business, but at 34 you daughter should be able use her own judgement as to who she dates...
A date is a date not a life time commitment
Now on the other hand we as parents always worry about our children even though they are adults...

we are allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll happy "you ain't dead... yet!"
one of the advisors, ((( margo or ann landers writers))), stated the obvious the other day--- 60 is the new 40s. following that logic,,, ,,, ,,, ,,, in another year,,, you could date your daughter's "date tonight," as a "much older man." just trying to be helpful, mzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ((((((.PAT.))))))

pat, you are one of the rare ladies on dating sites. actually looking for someone your age or older. most 50 y/o women are looking at men down to 35.....sort of makes some of us feel pretty useless.
rock on lady, you are one of matchdoctors greatest catches, whoever wins your heart.

~grin~ I had a similar discussion somewhat like this today with a former "beau"...but from a different perspective. He was talking about being able to tap his retirement money in a few years (oh my how topics between us have changed! ) when I started laughing -- told him it was a shocker that my former "boy toy" had turned into a contemporary.
