The Alpha retreat last weekend was nothing short of amazing. It's great every time. Some believe that it gets better and better. Such was the case last weekend.

We usually have two teachings, one Friday evening and one Saturday morning. It's all about the Holy Spirit. Saturday is usually when people receive the most. God wasn't going to wait until Saturday to make His presence felt. Well before we did any worship and Brian, one of our Associate Pastors, had barely begun speaking, when the presence of the Holy Spirit could be felt. My best friend, Martha, and I kept looking at each other saying, "Do you feel that?", "Yeah, do you feel that?", "Yeah." Martha started to tell me that she really felt that God was telling her that she needed to pray for Johnny, a man in our church that has been fighting Pancreatic Cancer.

After the teaching and worship was finished, I really felt that we needed to pray. I knew God was moving and doing something. I felt that we should pray for the retreat and whatever the Lord was doing. Distraction after distraction, three hours later at the campfire, Martha said that she was tired, as well as Matt. I said that is exactly what the enemy wanted. He didn't want us to pray. After me being quite persistent, the three of us went off near the woods by ourselves, huddled up and started praying. We invited the Holy Spirit and submitted ourselves to whatever the Lord had in store. I began to pray for the Lord to come in power and continue to do whatever He was doing, that we acknowledged that He was doing something big. Martha started to pray for Johnny, who had already gone to bed much earlier.

The next morning, after breakfast, we got together for the next teaching. We invited the Holy Spirit, who was very much already there, and again felt not only His presence, but the power of God in the room. Many folks received the Holy Spirit and were touched by God.

Carolyn, an awesome woman of God, and my friend Martha, another awesome woman of God, prayed for a couple of ladies. I wanted some of that. Jokingly, Carolyn said that I was greedy for the Holy Spirit. Naturally, I responded, "Yes, of course." Martha and Carolyn laid hands on me and started to pray. When Carolyn anointed my head with oil, I felt the power of God surge through my body. I almost hit the floor. I just trembled. Then, the joy of the Lord took over. I just started laughing. I was ready to go and run around the woods. God is so very awesome.

Finally, after most had cleared out, a small group of us started to pray for Johnny. It's amazing how God gives a word and it's confirmed. Martha and Carolyn had both gotten the word that we were coming with the sword. We weren't just praying...we were there to do battle. As we prayed, both of my hands were on Johnny's shoulders. I felt incredible heat flowing through both of my hands. Satan was called out as the liar that he is...he's been defeated. The prayer was powerful...so we thought....

We thought we were done. Johnny's wife, Claudia, and I were having a conversation by ourselves. We both felt the intense power of the Holy Spirit was over both of us. Claudia turned her hands over and they were scarlet red. She touched me and said, "Paul, I thought this was for you. It's not." We looked over and Martha and Carolyn were already around Johnny.

Martha kept getting a word from the Lord saying that she needed to go to Johnny's house and pray. Carolyn told Martha that she had a word and would tell her later. She didn't know what Martha had already heard. Martha wanted to know what the word was. Carolyn said that the Lord told her that she needed to go to Johnny's house and wash his feet. Martha stopped in her tracks and said, "What?". So, now we're around Johnny. Claudia layed her hot and red hands on Johnny's stomach and said, "This is for you, honey." Martha was praying in the Spirit as intercession took over and she started to cry...more like mourn. At this time, Carolyn motioned to the back of the room for Janet to come and pray with us. Janet had not been told by Martha or Carolyn what word they had both recieved. When she came up, she instantly fell to the floor and laid hands on Johnny's feet and began praying in the Spirit. The power of God was strong. Carolyn told Martha that what was in her needed to come out and began praying over her and rebuking the devil. Finally, she began coughing and hacking up what didn't belong in her. When we were done, we knew that God had just done something big.

The next day, in church, there were about six of us in a circle talking about what had happened at the retreat. Martha and I were the only ones that were in the room when all of this happened. Martha kept saying, "I wonder if I'm still supposed to goto to Johnny's house." I felt like the Lord was telling me something and I kinda shrugged it off the first time. Then, someone said, "Maybe you are supposed to go to his house." Just then, I felt impressed by the Lord and opened my mouth. I put my hand on my chest and said, "I think you did go to Johnny's house." As soon as I said it, a wave of the Holy Spirit hit every one of us in that circle. It was intense. After a moment, I had to sit down. I felt weak. I believe that was confirmation.

We are believing that God did something huge and continues to move in our church, as well as in the rest of the body. Some may say coincidence. I don't believe that. God is moving. I feel so blessed to be able to serve such an awesome God. The power of God is real. Nothing is impossible for Him.

God bless all of you. I pray that the Holy Spirit touches each and every one of you reading this. There is no greater joy than the joy of the Lord. Praise God!
