Looking back I wonder why I ever got upset when another member here got a bug up their ass and decided to send their vitriol in my direction. I guess being on Matchdoctor is a bit like life in general. We live and learn! Well some of us do, others just continue making the same old stupid mistakes.
There was a time here when the biggest arguments used to break out over the smallest of things and in a way I miss it. I can't believe I'm saying that because at the time I was among those who wrote several blogs about ending the wars, but now it's all over I feel a distinct lack of passion here. Lack of passion on a dating site is a bit sad don't you think!
Still, I reckon we brought it on ourselves, whether we dish it out or are on the receiving end, the secret is to behave like adults and as soon as it turns into a playground fight, turn around and walk away. There's nothing wrong with a healthy debate and agreeing to differ, in fact it can be fun.
Alas now, with the one comment rule, introduced no doubt to put an end to the aforementioned wars, we've lost the opportunity of expressing ourselves in a continued blog. Not a conversation that should be in the forums, but a continuing piece of interesting writing with various views and added dimensions to the original. Unfortunately, not everyone used their comments in a good way and should have taken their question and answer sessions to the Forums, but was there really so many of those? In time, we knew who they were and could avoid them if we didn't want to get involved.
There are still a few cool bloggers here. I'm not talking literary geniuses, that's not what blogging is about for me, but real people who aren't afraid to show a little of themselves, whether that be something of their life or an original sense of humour. Sometimes they have something very important or heart rending to write about, but these days it's a rarity compared to back in the day. I really miss the old days of Matchdoctor, but I guess everything changes. I still live in hope that things go in peaks and troughs and this is just another temporary trough.
I have no idea if the Blogs v Forums argument still goes on. For me, there has only ever been one place to be and that's Blogland. No offence meant to all who enjoy the Forums, but the subjects often seem to veer off on a tangent into a wierd world of their own, like conversations generally do. I often find the threads long and meandering and a little hard to follow unless I'm in at the start.
There has to be a reason why bloggers prefer to post in Blogland, and I can't exactly put my finger on why that is. It's possible to start a blog sized thread in the Forums and wait for the comments to come in, but somehow it's not the same as posting a blog. I think it may have something to do with layout. If the Forums were displayed in a similar way to the Blogs and we could see the latest posts easily and who was still online, then perhaps they'd work just as well for me. For now though, my heart still belongs in Blogland, even though I've been forced to the Forums because of the one comment rule.
To elaborate, I co-wrote a story blog on here a while back which received many views and comments. We're reposting and continuing the story in the Forums and can't be sure if anyone's reading it or not. We're happy to write the story anyway, as completing it is our main goal, but it's always good to receive feedback. If what one writes isn't read, it often seems a pointless exercise. Writing is a form of communication, and if no one reads it, then it's a failsure to communicate.
Since I returned here I have pretty much steered clear of blogland because when I dared to express myself or give an opinion I'd be insulted by some bozo reading a fish. It amazes me how a cut and paster has the nerve to give someone who has taken the time to put something into their own words a hard time. Perhaps it's their aim to stop every original blogger from posting until blogland is nothing more than a series of cut and paste stories and jokes which have been doing the rounds since the days of old Methusela.
I guess some will still give it their best shot, but let's think about it... I can approve or deny comments. I can also choose to ignore emails or block people I don't want to interact with. I never looked at it this way before because it went against my reasons for being here in the first place.
I'm really just here to write! Therefore, it's my blog and I'll post what I want to!

The childish bickering is still here, it's just not as prominent now. The fact is, some exist only to fight and bicker. And some of those kind of people, due to being real life cowards, bring their need to bicker to the internet.I haven't read your story, but I know what one you're talking about. I think I'll go read it now.

Wise words, Angel.
It is painful looking around at the list of 'popular' blogs; so many familiar names just peddling the same views, nothing orginal.
I have seen so many great writers leave, it hurts, you know.
OEM for one.

Or you get multitudes of crappy jokes, that have been around since the near dawn of man, and been seen in e-mail over and over and over and over again for the past 20 plus years...sighing
Angel...keep on writing! I've been reading!

i seldom venture into the forums OR chat-rooms, because i'm a SLOW one-fingered typist. by the time i get a response written, the moment has passed,,, they've veered in a different direction. or not...
most blogs allow a commentor to direct their view to what originally was written. or not...
