Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie" .....until you can find a rock.

Will Rogers

I really don't expect too many of you to actually read this. Believe me...it is not important.

Will Rogers.......
He once said something to the effect that "it takes a great country to withstand an election every 4 years." I am not sure he realized just how much truth would come to be held in that statement. This is surely the Mother of Elections, at least in my lifetime. The excitement and buildup of this contest is like the "buzz" those boxing matches between Ali and whom ever decided it was their turn at the Champ would generate. Even the young seem to be involved. This is a good thing.

Sure are a lot of things wrong with this whole process. But ya know what folks?

I am pretty happy to watch and participate in it. What an incredible system overall. This is a great country, and a strong process, regardless of it's many faults. I think the point I am trying to make is, maybe, I don't concentrate so much of my time finding fault with the process nor the people involved, but rather, looking for and remembering to appreciate the positive things going on. Looking for the good in people. Looking for the right way to go. It is not always easy.

All this "debating" that is going on around the world really, is fascinating to me. Especially the debates that are civil. Debating is supposed to be different than being angry and arguing. Ask any married couple.

I watch "pundits" argue their cases for their candidates with passion. Sometimes even boiling over a bit. And then comes the end of the segment, they smile, say thanks and move on with the next interview. I find that admirable. The ability to shake hands, have a tough debate, and then shake hands again.
Much better than standing back to back, and taking 40 paces with a gun in one's hand if ya ask me.
Politics...ya gotta love it.

Will Rogers also once said, " Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for."

Heh heh.....good stuff. A little painful, but amusing.
At least it is comforting to know, that keeping a government in check has always been difficult. We are not the first group of generations struggling with this.

I would like to express one opinion about this election. And then I will be done with it. There is one thing about this cycle that is really troubling to me.

It is not so much a " who is standing for what" sort of election for me. I am not considering personalities, policies, nor tickets as a first step in my decision making process. There is another consideration that seems to be terrifyingly important to me, the more I think about it. I find it overriding everything else.

And that is....giving complete power to one party.

I find that a worrisome aspect of this situation, and frankly have already voted with that as my main concern. I would vote against that idea as a priority no matter which party was about to gain that kind of control. Of course politics and policies are important, but a shared power......that seems to me to be of the utmost importance in a democracy. A sharing of the power.

Incremental change is a good thing.

Think about it.

Ask the folks living in countries under rapid change conditions....like the folks under old Hugo's "leadership." See how they feel about an uncontrollable rate of change.
Giving all the power to one party will be a difficult mistake. I could say something nasty here, like...especially with people like Pelosi and Reid as part of the power holders.......but I won't.
I like the thought of civil debate and incremental change.

Ok...I am done.
Oh! Wait!

One more thing.......

As far as health care goes....think about this.
Our health care professionals have so many options to help them find out what is wrong with their patients. Plus we can talk to our doctors and give them even more clues. Yet they are very often clueless as to our conditions and what to do about them.....Except charge us for their guess right or wrong......they do know how to do that.

But I think that "The best doctors in the world are the veterinarians. They can't ask their patients what is the matter......they've got to just know. "

There is something about that thought that is important..... but it escapes me at the moment.

I think that ol Will Rogers fella knew a thing or two. Don't you?

Stay Tuned

I do

Giving complete power to one party has always had disastrous results. For those like myself too young to remember Carter, all you have to do is look back at GW's first 6 years. That was a complete unmitigated disaster if there ever was one.

What a honest and straight forward post. While weall have our views of who should be in office and how things should be.........................At the end of the day, we will all take a deep breath, reach out and be Americans. God bless the USA

Tunes, yet again a great blog and I'm not even American

I find one thing bewildering....what IS the problem with free health care? Canada does it and besides the long wait times, it works! Sure some people opt for private health care on top of it but for some of us that isn't an option. When I can go have 3 surgeries at once from a well sought after doctor and not pay a cent and feel great for the first time in years, I say the wait was worth it! Even the homeless can get health care...what a concept, THAT truly is leaving "no man behind" IMHO

and as in Canada, our election wrapped up with a MINORITY government.... whew. We may not have wanted Harper in again but at least he doesn't have abolute power.

Kudos, Tunes, Kudos

Hey Coug,

Free health care sounds fine to me....

But as far as how to get there?

Way over my head!

It sounds good though, that's for sure.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone!

all you have to do is look back at GW's first 6 years. That was a complete unmitigated disaster if there ever was one.

This has been different than what I believe Tunes meant. While the repubs did have control of congress for lil Bushie's first 6 years, it wasn't filibuster or veto proof. Should the dems get to 60 seats in the senate...a very real possibility...they would be virtually free to do anything they want to do with no oversight of any kind and no checks & balances in place. A VERY scary thought!!!

And there was nothing, Iraq in particular, lil Bushie did without congress approving the $$ do do it. And dems are an itrgal, very participating part of much that was done, as wrong and ill conceived as it might have been.

Yeah Tunes...ole Will knew of what he spoke!!
