From my personal blog
The latest of Republican smears against Obama is his link with former terrorist William Ayers, part of the Weathermen, an Anti-Vietnam extremist group. This association stems from a 1995 meeting at a luncheon, and the two men serving on an anti-poverty board. However, the right wing spin machine would have you believe that Obama supported terrorist activities that were committed when he was just a small child. Even the head prosecutor of the weathermen case says this is bullshit, as he stated in a letter to the New York Times this past friday.
As the lead federal prosecutor of the Weathermen in the 1970s (I was then chief of the criminal division in the Eastern District of Michigan and took over the Weathermen prosecution in 1972), I am amazed and outraged that Senator Barack Obama is being linked to William Ayers’s terrorist activities 40 years ago when Mr. Obama was, as he has noted, just a child.
Although I dearly wanted to obtain convictions against all the Weathermen, including Bill Ayers, I am very pleased to learn that he has become a responsible citizen.
Because Senator Obama recently served on a board of a charitable organization with Mr. Ayers cannot possibly link the senator to acts perpetrated by Mr. Ayers so many years ago.
I do take issue with the statement in your news article that the Weathermen indictment was dismissed because of “prosecutorial misconduct.” It was dismissed because of illegal activities, including wiretaps, break-ins and mail interceptions, initiated by John N. Mitchell, attorney general at that time, and W. Mark Felt, an F.B.I. assistant director.

As anyone who has a few minutes to do some reading will find out, this %100 retarded attempt to connect Obama to terrorist activities which took place decades earlier is beyond absurd. It would be like trying to connect Bush to Al Queida based on the fact that his father worked with Osama’s relatives as part of the Carlyle group. Of course there is no need to let the truth get in the way of a good smear campaign.
However, since we’re going to play the ‘Guilt by association’ card though, wasn’t Todd Palin (a.k.a. the republican candidate’s running mate’s husband) a member of a group that wanted Alaska to separate from the union (It doesn’t get more Anti-American than that) from 1995 - 2002? Yet Sarah Palin is married to and has kids with this guy. If Michelle Obama was part of such a group, we would never hear the end of it.
Oh yeah, wasn’t McCain trying to get the support of pastor John Hagee, who stated that gays are responsible for hurricane Katrina and Hitler was doing god’s work? That’s as hateful as anything Reverend Wright said, yet he gets a pass on it. Lets not even get into McCain’s associations with the Keating 5 and Watergare break-in participant Gordon Liddy. Of course, since Republicans can do no wrong…
Gotta love double standards.

I read this and thought "hmmm...very good." Then I went to your profile and read your comments as to what you like and do not like in women and thought "hmmmm..... Seems that what you want is very picky. Perhaps those that are questioning Mr. Obama are very picky too! People just need to lighten up and get along...We are alll different, yet similar! L

Mr blac, with all due respect, calling the Weather Underground "anti war extremist group" would be like calling alQaeda "Muslim Activists."
The Weather Underground were admitted anarchists. You should read Ayres writings.
The robbed armored trucks and murdered police. What does that have to do with Viet Nam?
Their anarchist activities continued on long after the Viet Nam War was over.
You are ill informed about the group and Barry's association with the group.

Couldn't agree more...
Times were different back then...turbulent...people did things they wouldn't even think of doing now...Viet Nam had that effect. Yeah, Ayers did some things that weren't good, but so did the Govt.
When the Govt. apologizes for Kent State and the over reaches of the FBI towards those who were actively against the war, maybe then Ayers will owe an apology too.
Till then, that was then and this is now.
Besides politics can make strange bedfellows...you say Rezko, I say Keating...etc...

I lived in those days, went to college. Even our respected college professors would lecture against decisions our government would make. Times were indeed very different. If you look back at the history of those days you will find that the students in those colleges weren't always wrong. Violence isn't the way to go about changes. But, those changes needed to occur. Just as the young people today are speaking out and telling you about the candidate they support. From day #1 of this campaign I have supported Senator Obama. I train student teachers in my kindergarten classroom who are Obama supporters from the university. My own children like Obama. I have been watching this young senator during this campaign. You can't help but, notice the wise decisions he has made, the head he has on his shoulders. American needs this type of leadership. He doesn't profess to do it all alone. He surrounds himself with people who know, seeks advice and then makes decisions based on wisdom. I have already cast my vote for him in early voting. The campaign has been long. We are ready for an amazing Election Day. We know if Obama wins the nation wins! "Yes Obama wins" is what we are waiting to hear!

I agree 100% with the blogger on every point he has made !
And let me also say to the blogger it is "your generation" who has stepped up like no other generation in the history of this country and this Tuesday will vote overwhelmingly for Obama rejecting the neo-con policies of the past that have brought this country to its lowest point(s) in our history.
Also,Kudos to you for this fine blog and Kudos to your generation for being active and involved in the politics of this country !
America and the future of the World "Thanks You " for caring and demanding change that will restore this country to the greatness that at one time garnered the respect and admiration of most of the world !
Power to the People !

I agree with you 100%. Double standards seem to be the backbone of this campaign. You seem to be an intelligent man who backed up your blog with outside information not innuendo.
As far as his profile being picky, so what? I read it and it isn't any pickier than anyone else's. He is honest about what he wants upfront. And this has nothing to do with his blog or the political race at hand.
Oh and Sarah Palin attended at least one meeting of the group her husband is a member of AFTER she was elected governor. What does this say about her leadership and patriotism?

Obama is a cool dude. I have a Native American friend who met him at the American Embassy in Jerusalem, prior to running for president. He relates equally well to peoples of all ethnic groups.
No one could be elected to a heavily populated state like Illinois if he or she was an extremist. There would just be too many eyes looking at your past.
I have avoided saying anything negative in the blogs about John McCain because I have always liked him as a person. I remember what gross lies the Bush ads told about him in the 2000 primaries. I do not trust the people running his political party, however.
Excellent blog.

As a "once upon a time" member of the JDL I guess I'm lucky I'm not running for office .. it would be my association with a terrorist organization. LOL Great Blog. Thanks for keeping it classy and keeping it real. OBAMA in 08!!!! (and again in 12~)
