I've had no less than three other bloggers convey to me recently that they were becoming disenchanted with the online experience because of all the wackos one must endure online. I admit that at the time, I was in agreement with these bloggers. Certainly, this medium offers both a physical distance and the relative anonymity one needs to behave in a manner that is not in good keeping with traditional social norms.

I've thought about this the last couple of weeks. I've been spending a lot less time online - and therefore my time undistracted in the real world has increased. I've concluded that I'm more productive and perhaps thinking a little more clearly now that I spend less time in the virtual world. However, I've also concluded that the number of wackos in the real world is at least proportional to those in the online world, and without distance and anonymity, the real world nut jobs are much more of a concern than the virtual nut jobs. Actually, the nut cases are disproportionally greater in the real world as we can safely eliminate all the nuts who can't turn on a computer from our virtual world.

Of course the virtual world has the burden of hosting seemingly sane people who behave psychotically simply because they're online. This may not be a negative. If a person is bound to "go off" once in a while, is it not better that they do so using the written word in the virtual world as opposed to using a meat cleaver in the real one?

I'm going to continue to spend less time online as a time management consideration. However, if you see me back with a constant "online now" icon, you'll know that there were simply too many nuts out there in the real world.

Yeah, ya can't get away from them

Sometimes I find it easier to deal in the virtual world, I get over the BS faster and more easily

Don't worry about coming back, like many of us it is an escape from the "real world" where the wackos have a better access to ones true emotions...

It is nice to have 2 pools to play in

Stay as sane as you can, psychos can be contagious

Hey, why don't ya just pick up the newspaper and take a glance at the Police Reports....That way you can get a good solid read on the Wackos out there and quickly return to the safety of our virtual world.

However, I must mention that I have been fortunate to meet a lot of people from my virtual world (men and women), and I'm pretty impressed with them. Actually, I haven't met any wackos in person...... YET!,

Just my thoughts,

I haven't met any wackos either; unfortunately, those who have met me can't say the same

When we hear a big explosion and the night sky lights up with the luminosity of ten suns, then the freaks of nature will crawl across this planet taking whater ever they want, including but not limited to eachother's lives. So be patient, it's coming.

OMG, do you live in my town and we've never met?

Before I moved here, I lived in a town where every city in the province sent their mentally ill patients that could not be sent to jail. They stayed at our local mental hospital. I think I had just as many, if not more whacko's in my hometown than online I could be wrong...Or I could just be a whacko.

I think I'm a whacko.

Do you like taco's?

Yeah I must agree about getting away from the virtual world more. I know I am much better when I do. Yet something seems to draw me back................. .

Nice to read ya again.

maybe the political psychos will disappear in a few days - or will they morph into something else just as radical and inane?
