Today while my daughter and I were sitting the dentist office waiting room, out of the blue, she says to me "Mom, I'm going with John McCain no matter what!" I had no idea what she was talking about. So I asked her what she meant. She then said "That other guy kills babies." I'm going to assume that meant that Obama is Pro-Choice. What I didn't understand was why a 5 year old was talking about it. I then asked her how she knew that. Apparently, in her grade school they are holding "mock elections". Now I understand that older children may need to do this as they are learning the politcal parties, and platforms, and presidential history and all that jazz, but 5 year olds? In kindergarten?

I asked her who told her that Obama "kills babies" and she informed that one of the teachers told the children this. Now, am I wrong to think that a teacher has no right whatsoever to tell the kids this? Is it their place at all to inflict their own views on our youth?

As I've stated before in responses to blogs and in some of my own, I'm not real keen on either of our choices for the leader of the free world. I think they both have good points, and they both have bad points. However, I don't believe that either is capable or qualified for being our Commander in Chief. One thing I do know is that I don't want my daughter to be influenced by anyone who would use to words "kills babies." I don't think that 5 years old is an appropriate age to be learning this information.

Am I overreacting to this? Should I ask the school board why they are allowing their staff to use that type of terminology to persuade a child to think the way they think? Should I just let it go??

I'm am so glad that all of this crap is over with tomorrow. There is nothing we can do about who actually gets elected. Sure, we can vote, but thats where our power ends. After tomorrow, its done. We're stuck with whoever we get. And so will begin the downfall of the free world!

no matter who the teacher is pulling for in this election.,she should have been much more professional than that for gawds sake., .,makes me wonder what else are teachers teaching .,i think this is terrible.,she/he and all teachers must be above this kind of manipulation of young minds.,yer this should be confronted somehow

Hussein Obama IS pro-infanticide.

Abortion IS a hot topic with this election.

What do you expect "teachers/pupils" to discuss in a "mock" election, Santa's new home (given "global warming")?????

Yes. You are dead wrong.

.

You should just be proud your daughter is not voting "present", especially with such an important issue.

No I do not think this at all. Grow up and be serious now. This is something that 5 year olds should not be learning anyways. And if they must learn it, the appropriate terminology is not "kill babies"

thinking kindergarten is a tad young for holding mock elections. and the teacher's terminology seems out of place. i think i would be talking to the principal, BEFORE i talked to the teacher. that teacher could make it "hard" on your kid, if you talked to her / him first.

This is TOTALLY unacceptable for a teacher of our children to use that term *kills babies*...to kindergarteners!!

A subject as controversal as this needs to be studied and an opinion formed by minds that have the capability of understanding everything it entails.

Usually this means adults, but by a certain comment, obviously there are exceptions that couldnt make an intelligent thought if their life depended on it.

I would definitely bring it to the attention of the Principal of the school...someone needs to be aware of this...

They made me do this when I was back in 5th grade. I don't know why they did it or even what they expected but it was stupid. Nobody knew anything about what was going on, they told us what we were doing as we went into the mock election booth. It was just pointless.

We didn't have anyone telling us things about the candidates. I don't know what I would have done if I had found out that a teacher was going around saying things like that to kids. Sure, they don't get to vote but still. It shouldn't even matter who the person is, it feels wrong to say that about anybody.

Pro-life or pro-choice is irrelevant.

The teacher should be, at least, severely reprimanded. Dismissal and/or charges should be laid. (Child abuse, slander, etc.)

You should definately report it.

First off, it's slander. Obama may favour freedom of choice....which allows for other people to "kill babies" in the future. There is no evidence to suggest Obama has actually done so himself.

Secondly, the teacher should be fully aware that a young child is not going to have any understanding of the very complex issue surrounding abortion. Presenting it to the children as "kills babies" is indoctrination, not teaching. The teacher should be dismissed for incompetance.

Thirdly, they're f'ng 5 year olds!

Fourthly, the status of a fetus as a 'baby' is a matter of opinion. An opinion based on issues that are extremely advanced concepts: faith, science, individuality, conciousness, the soul, etc.

The teacher's actions should be considered criminal. Similarly, a teacher using the same tactic to indoctrinate children with a "pro-choice" viewpoint should be treated exactly the same.

If they want to teach the election process, maybe they should go about having them vote for something they are at least a little knowledgable about on their own level. At my school, we let the kindergartners vote on whether they like hot dogs or hamburgers better. It's unfortunate that teachers sometimes lose their professionalism. I guess that's true with most any profession. I would never begin to "teach" which candidate is better. Frankly, I tried to steer clear of it. The kids don't have a clue and the parents are just going to get upset. It is a definite lose-lose situation. Just my most humble opinion.

"Kills babies" is brainwashing, broadcasting and political/religious propaganda, not "teaching material..." It has no place in an educational programme. If the kid said it that would be different, but if the teacher said it, that is totally unprofessional. By the way, That crowd kills doctors and nurses at clinics.

Call the exorcist...

I've only ever approved of abortion as a last resort personally, but then I'm never likely to have to make the choice... and frankly, it would be none of my bloody business, as a man. Either the law chooses or the woman chooses. Legally, it's known as "termination" or "abortion."

Kills babies was what Christian fundies did in Vietnam...
