Mc Cain supporters voted for a man based upon the policies and the issues, not on race

African American Obama supporters voted for a man not base on his experience or policies, but solely for his race

Now as the readers digest condensed version it was a generalization, and as a generalization it was very RACIST, or maybe even more exact, reverse racism. A man elected only because of his color. And those who voted for him only because of his color are RACIST.

On election day I sat glued to the TV watching site bite after sound bite about Obama, for every 20 times he was mentioned, Mc Cain got one. Then when it was apparent that Obama had won the only reaction reporters could show from african americans was one of .....we won....we finally got a black man for president. WTF?? No mention of he was the best man for the job, he had the experience to lead the country, or any specific policy that Obama supported that they endorsed, not ONE mention of anything like that, ONLY ONE thing.......he was BLACK. And the reaction of the world because we voted for a black man, that is no different. I saw reaction after reaction of world opinion of how we are lucky to have a black man president, never mind the fact that they dont have to live in the US under his policies. And then we have the radical muslims, they are just tickled pink now that we have a muslim president, now where did they pick up that Obama is muslim??

I take my responsibilty and priviledge of voting very seriously, I take the time to study the issues, the stance that the canidates have. So when I see examples of >> Irresponsible Voters << it kind of makes my head spin. Why did I not vote Libertarian because I like kittys, puppies, and rainbows?

Arm chair quarter back are now dissecting why Mc Cain did not win, its simple, he is not black. And through the entire election I did not see Mc Cain play the race card one time.

I could care less of Obamas color, And I do not know of anyone that voted for Mc Cain simply as a vote against having a black president.

If Obama had been the right person for presidency I would be screaming from the roof tops in jublilation rather than worried about the next 4 years. I am not Afraid, and lucky for me we are in a democratic nation and I am free to express my opinions. But if Obama guts the second amendment, Whats next? The first amendment? If that does not keep you awake at night we are all in trouble.

All haters will recieve a lifetime membership to the New Black Panther party, The Weather Underground, and a reserved front row pew at a Rev Jeremiah Wright sermon

I voted for President Obama NOT because he is black, but because I did not want another war monger in office. I voted for President Obama because is promises are more for the average people not the rich. It had NOTHING to do with the color of his skin.

I didn't vote for either one, I voted against the two party system.

The thing that blew me away, is how these two men could get such a nomination?

We are in a war on two fronts.
The economy is in shabbles.
The threat of terrorism.
Russia and China are building militarily.
Both men voted for the 750 billion dollar bailout.
Homes reposessed.
Jobless and homeless..

And they chose two of the very men who had been sitting in seats of power that got us here.

On the right you have a chickenhawk.
On the left, a man who attended a racist church for twenty years and complimented a known terrorist who's group, was responsiable for killing police officers.

I was'nt for any of the two.

And I don't care about race.

But give me a friggen break.
This is a major brain fart of the American public or America seriously needs a hero and don't care where he comes from.

I will agree with you that some african american voters based their decision on the color of President Obamas skin, however I do not believe it was all!

Also, I know of several people, my ex husband included, who voted against Obama simply because he is black. He told me that while he agreed with this politcal standings, he would not tolerate a black president.

I voted for President Obama. And I am proud to say that. America needs a change.

However, I do disagree with everyone calling this a historical election simply because of his skin color. I believe its a historical election because we now have a man in office who seems genuinely real! He speaks from the heart and I think thats why this election is historical!

You have made some good points. Blacks were clearly voting for Obama because he is black, and that is clearly racism. However, blacks represent less than 20% of the population in America, Obama was not elected by blacks he was elected by whites, Iowa being a prime example. The main reason why McCain did not win is because he was a weak candidate, his position on the issues was just more of the SOS, and working class Americans are tired of our politicians catering to the wealthy elite. Personally, I would have rather seen Hillary Clinton or Mike Huckabee as President, but I think that Obama will do a good job. As Americans we should all support him now and hope that he truly leads the country in a better direction.

I think you don't know what you're stating, countrygirl.

You voted for Hussein Obama because you were very misinformed.

China will take Tibet, SKorea and possibly Taiwan.

Russia and China will further support Islam's hand at cultural/human genocide in Africa [for it's oil-rich property], and expand their military into Europe and Latin America.

Israel will be destroyed (Iran's promise x 30 in the last 2 years).

Ok, so now the "war mongers" exist in the other nations, ...not ours.

Feel better now, whiteghost672???

.

I voted for President Obama because is promises are more for the average people not the rich.

His promises are for the ultra-rich (US Government & Islamic nations).

America seriously needs a hero

I noticed a lot of the comments as well about the "first black president"

My hero's are the men and women in the Military both domestic and abroad, as well as those men and women in the police and fire departments in this country. All of them put their lives on the line every day for the peace and freedom that we experience.

Let me ask - has anyone hugged a soldier today for those freedoms?

Blacks were clearly voting for Obama because he is black, and that is clearly racism.

Actually, no, this is not clear. I can see where you would make the mistake, but this is why one must actually look beyond superficial resemblances.

If, in the current American situation, white people were to vote for a white candidate because of his racial identity, that would almost certainly be racism at work. A black person voting for a black candidate for the same reason is not (necessarily) simple racism.

No, this is not a double standard, it is a different situation. Not everything can be simply inverted, just as you can't reverse the polarity on a a microwave and have it cool your food. To explain:

Black is more than a skin color in America. It's a social group. Not a social group like Rotary Club or the Hell's Angels, mind you -- it's a group the membership of which is enforced by the society. You don't get a choice. And there is in that membership a certain commonality, if not of experience, then of expectation, which ties into privilege -- or lack thereof. And I know many people hate that word so, if you prefer, rather than a lack of privilege, a surplus (perhaps "surfeit" would be appropriate?) of disadvantage. One which theoretical equality before the law does not erase any more than being admitted to a hospital automatically cures one's cancer.

So, from the point of view of the black voter (if I may extrapolate, not being one myself -- black voters reading this, feel free to correct any misrepresentation you perceive on my part), the race of the candidate is a determining factor in how well the candidate is likely to understand and respond to the particular position and concern of the black voter -- that being, those endemic to being black in America. While I don't wish to oversimplify exactly what "being black in America" entails -- even if I could really experience it from the inside, which I can't -- I will risk suggesting it involves aspects of socioeconomic disadvantage, prejudice conscious and unconscious (from black as well as non-black people), criminal justice issue and finding a place in existing society while maintaining a unique cultural identity.

Now, to accept that the similar white voter/white candidate situation is comparable, I will need someone to define, however vaguely (and I admit the above was somewhat vague) the experience and concern particular to white Americans that can best be properly understood and related to specifically by a white candidate.

Anyone?
