Having taught young children for nearly 25 years, it never ceases to amaze me the information they can spew out at the drop of a hat. I'm not talking about information they have learned at school, but information they have about their parents. I have had children blurt out to the police officer doing his anti-drug speech "My daddy smokes those funny kinds of cigarettes!". (This has happened more than once!) Once when my class was visiting the police station, the officer explained what the "Wanted" posters were. As he held one up, one of my students called out, "Hey, that's my daddy!" Oops! My son had his first experience with this phenomenon today when he chaperoned his son's kindergarten class on a trip to the (Yep, you guessed it!) Police Station. The officer was showing them all of the equipment he wears on his belt. When he showed them the handcuffs, one little girl piped up, "I know what that is. My mama keeps some in the drawer by her bed!" The officer ended his demonstration.
