As I sit here in the confines of my cozy room, I can hear the sound of sleet hitting the window. What a change from our record highs in the low 70's that we had last weekend & into early this week. It's 34 outside now, & by tomorrow noon we could have 1-2" of snow on the grassy & elevated surfaces. But, such is life in WI. & the Midwest. The Dakota's got clobbered with snowfall totaling as much as 45" in western SD, with drifts as high as 22' thanks to 65 MPH winds.
Butterfly943, knowing that I am knowledgeable & enjoy weather, suggested I blog about what the meaning is behind a Harvest Moon. Simply stated, a Harvest Moon is a full moon nearest to the Autumnal Equinox. However, it's meaning goes much deeper than that. Wikipedia states " In times past this feature of these autumn moons was said to help farmers working to bring in their crops (or, in the case of the Hunter's Moon, hunters tracking their prey). They could continue being productive by moonlight even after the sun had set. Hence the name Harvest (or Hunter's) Moon." For further reading about other moons of the year, here is a link to the Farmer's Almanac, which explains a bit about the significance & / or meaning of each full moon.
Like many others on here, I am SO GLAD the election is over. While I was not supportive of either candidate, @ least now we can turn on television, or the radio & not have to hear 2 minute commercials of mudslinging, & drudging up of their pasts. It will be interesting to see what changes will come about when Obama takes over the Oval Office in January. Whether your Democrat, Republican, or some other political following, the important thing is we remember, this is America... & we should be proud of what our forefathers fought for & what this country has accomplished. The sign outside our church, which changes each week with a different message of encouragement, read this week "THE ELECTION IS OVER.. NOW IT'S TIME TO PULL TOGETHER".
At times, it's very entertaining in here. This is both good & pathetic. The good is that in the forums there are so many great people that are an absolute blast to converse with. Lately, there have been some mighty excellent blogs as well. Yet, on the other side of the spectrum, it's sorta like a soap opera.. "like sands through the hourglass, so are the moments in MD". What I get the biggest kick out of are the people that once had profiles in here, & then either due to a break up, argument, or just because they feel they have to keep up on things, they'll cancel & come back INCOGNITO.. .. thinking no one has a clue as to who they are. In some cases it's to badger an ex BF / GF, or to try & make another jealous, or to live out a fantasy world that they have created for themselves. If they only knew how obvious they were & just exactly how many people really do know who is behind the "gray ghost" that refuses to put up pics & identify themselves. What a life that must be to have to hide behind a mask. Now, before anyone comes unglued, I know there ARE cases where people on here have been members with the same profile name for a long time, & choose not to place pics up for privacy reasons (perhaps they have a job in the public eye, like a teacher, or city clerk, where they could easily be recognized), & in that case I can understand. And usually that person has a decent profile to describe themselves to make up for no pics, & doesn't have to change it's contents every day. But, it sure is amusing... & what's best is we all have a ringside seat, & it's free.
Last weekend, I had a chance to see one of the heaviest dog breeds known to man... a Mastiff. My cousin brought over her Mastiff, & Bassett Hound to my aunts. If you've never seen a Mastiff up close, OMGosh.. you have to. They are the most gentle of giants. Her dog thinks he's a lap dog, so he sits his front half on your lap & the rest of him on the floor. And there he sits.. with paws the size of a bear , & a face that looks so somber.
So, on that note, I'll wish ya'll a great weekend, & stay warm & safe! *HUGS & FOOTRUBS* ladies.. *HANDSHAKES* guys..

WSOR: I know exactly how you feel about the weather. We only had it in the fifties last week, but the temperature dropped a few degrees every hour today. I'm freezing, and winter hasn't even hit me yet. Of course, hearing about the Dakotas this morning did not help matters. The predictions for this area seem to be the same. I wouldn't mind winters at all if I could stay at home and enjoy the beauty of it from within the confines of my home. It is picturesque!

as for those who choose to reappear on here 'incognito' they need to be aware that their writing style and pet pics make it more than obvious as to what their true identity is....

I love the entire Mastif line - love to watch them in the show ring - they are one of the oldest breeds and most breeds are traced back to the mastif - my breed is the Saint Bernard - they too like to plop their big butts in your lap with their front feet on the ground.
Please keep that weather up there - it was 68 here today, now its cold and windy with a high tomorrow of 42 - I know its coming, just not ready for it!

Brrrrrrrrr Jim. I am freezing just thinking about it getting colder. I just took Rufus Puppy outside, thinking we would then get in bed and watch tv and it is flippin cold outside now.... wind chill makes it 68 F and it is supposed to get colder tonight. YUCK..... I hate cold weather. Rufus Puppy loves it..... only when I am freezing will he snuggle with me at night....... lol.... well I guess that is my only consolation.
But good news, it will be mid 70's and by mid week upper 70's..... for awhile anyway. I have seen the weather drop like a lead balloon here way too many times..... so I know it is coming.
Snuggle, snuggle..... all the critters are soooo tiny when it comes to snuggle time.
Stay warm!
