I was recently accused of being "Leftist", which I found amusing. Am I?
I favour the pro-life position in the abortion controversy. I support public morality and traditional family values. I support the nuclear family model as society's foundational unit I favour a balanced budget, limitted government spending, and free trade. I believe in the private sector and free market. I believe in state-owned/extremely regulated gun, alchohol, drug manufacture.
Commonly held "rightist" beliefs...hmm. So, I'm "Rightist", maybe?
I don't oppose expansion of civil marriage and child adoption rights to couples in homosexual relationships. I favour equality for all, in law, treatment, expectations, and responsibility. I'm a strong supporter of universal medicare, education and flat-taxation. I believe in sin taxing (polution, vices, etc). I'm a "tree hugger". I oppose the existance and use of military force beyond defence. (Armies should never leave the country.) No drug should be illegal.
Okay, so I'm not right, either.
I'm not even sure where 1/2 my beliefs fall...left, right or somewhere else. I strongly favour seperation of church and state. (Most churches are just very popular cults.)Left, I think, maybe? I'm fanatically in favour of gun control. ("The right to bear arms." is no different than HAMAS endorsement of killing.)
Whatever! Two catagories for a bazillion people! Catogorizing people as 'left', 'right', 'conservative', etc. is, more often than not, just another form of prejudice.
And no, I don't feel like providing any justifcation or argument.
The only fair comparison you've ever seen of "Left" vs "Right" was on Sesame Street. The real world is slightly more complicated.

We many have a difference of opinion on a couple of issues you have listed but I have always tried to be fair and open minded of other folks opinions and beliefs

You have a good blog for you are true about yourself and honest with yourself. That is all that counts. You have the right to live your life as you please--as long as it does not interfer with someone else.
This is a major problem with some people for they have so much hate and evil bottled up in them. Just look at the people on MD who have and are still trying to circulate hate mail about Obama.
However, I do disagree with some of your mail for we will never have a flat tax for there are too many Loop holes in the tax code. There is no rob the rich and give to the poor. In fact the rich have robed the poor and gave totheir bank for too many years now.
If you depended on the spending of the rich--we would be in a deep depression now. It is the middle class that buys the product and keeps the factories producing and thus the economy.

*gasp* You're an individual!?! Is that allowed?
Re: Kentuck
we will never have a flat tax for there are too many Loop holes I agree, we'll never have it. But, I still want it! Very flat. Very very.
"20% tax on income over $20 000 on every citizen. Period." "20% assistance on income under $20 000 on every citizen. Period."
eg. Single mom making $40k, with one child (making 0$) would pay a net $0.
No loop holes. No deductions. No adjustments. (No doubt, the #'s quoted would have to be chosen carefully and adjusted occationally.)
Married? That's nice. A secular agreement between two, three, twenty people of whatever sex, race and even age! We the government, don't care. It makes no difference to us. (Oop....you're having sex with someone underage! That's rape...we have laws for that. Your 'wife'? Whatever....we the government don't care. It's still rape.)
As for the sundry arguments about taxing/not taxing "the rich"....my opinion is simple: Keep it simple! Work more, work harder or work smarter....get more. Why punnish 'the rich'? Little point in it, anyway....the amount of tax the contribute to public coffers, collectively, is negligable. Remove the loopholes to remove the belief (real or imagined) that the super rich manage to pay little or no taxes. An unquestioned "$20" is better than a maybe "$40", maybe not.
