I was listening as someone told me about having difficulty getting a loan. I said I'd give them the money with one condition. Instead of paying me back, they were to take the money and help someone else who needed it. Yeah, I know...it's crazy right? How could I just give away money and not expect it paid back...with interest even. Well, I guess I have enough.
If this goes well, I'll do it again. Who knows, maybe it if works out well twice, it will start a movement. Imagine if everyone who had more than they needed gave a lil bit to someone who was less fortunate and in turn that person helped another. Imagine if the "have mores" were content to have enough? Imagine if compassion was more of a motivator than greed?
I'm trying to imagine it.

Excellent blog, Punk! I agree. I have, in the past, paid for Rx's for people short of cash or insurance at the pharmacy. Taken a homeless man to breakfast. Given him money to do his laundry. Given a ride to an old guy trying to get across a parking lot with his walker in a snowstorm. And other things...that I hope will be passed on a little bit now and again.
It could be such a better world if we all just gave a little bit. Selfish, really. Cause it feels so damn good.

Does it count if I give it to my son? I won some money last week and he wanted a video game (Gears of War 2) but doesn't get paid until the 15th. I gave him the money to buy it. All I said I wanted in return was his help at home for the week or for him to "pay it forward" as well. GREAT blog!

I started doing this long before the movie "Pay it forward".
I applaud anyone that does it.
I applies to more than money - but also to deeds as well.
I call it my philosophy of "Pass It Along".
As I was helped in the past, I help others and request that they merely "Pass It Along" to others.
I'm working on a song about it and hope to get someone to play and sing it for me so I can spread the word further.

I don't have much money but I give of my time at Hospice. The strange thing is ...everytime I make one of the patients smile...I feel better myself.

Love to know how this works out. Beautiful gesture. I lend with the full realization I may never see it again, but I'm ok with that as I only lend/give to people who are willing to help themselves and others. Not to mentionI have more stuff than a body has a right to, even if half of it's broke. lol Not my body, parts of that are going south.

My pastor once preached a sermon called " how can I serve?" Well since then and somewhat before also I am constantly asking myself that question. For the last several years, I contacted a large church in our area around the holidays and helped a needy family by providing their dinner and a few gifts too.
I also have several times helped young people in the area that are friends of friends of my daughter that had no place temporarily to go...feeding them, washing their clothes, and housing them, some for as long as 2 years!!
It is always good to help others as much as possible. What goes around.... comes around, and this is really true.. Good Blog!!!!!!!!!!!!

What goes around, comes around...
I practice it since many years: money, deeds, time..... you give when you can. And when the receiving person asks you how they could possibly ever give it back, you smile and say: "don't worry.... when you can, some day, you'll give it to somebody else..." And they promise they will...
And guess what? When I need something (money, deeds, time....) there is always somebody (often strangers...) who gives it to me.... Then, when I ask how I could possibly ever give it back... they smile.... and we smile...
Because we know... .
