This isn't going to be very popular with you if you are one of the people who can't think for yourself and are blaming someone else for your stupidity and greed. Here is a news flash for you. NO ONE PUT A GUN TO YOUR HEAD AND MADE YOU BUY THAT HOUSE.
Do I sound mad? Well I AM mad.
I did the responsible thing and bought a sensible house that was well below what I could have bought if I was a greedy jerk. Just because the bank will give you more money than you can afford, doesn’t mean you should take it! Didn’t you learn anything in your life?!
Now, the government is announcing a plan that will reward the greedy people who bought million dollar houses on a 20 thousand dollar a year income by GIVING MY TAX MONEY TO THEM SO THAT THEY CAN KEEP THE DAMN HOUSE THEY SHOULDN’T HAVE BOUGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE!
In other words, MY MONEY is going to be used to PAY FOR THEIR HOUSE and give it to THEM!
What about these cases where people bought a house, the value of the house went down, and now they owe more than the house is worth? Well BOO HOO!
People talk about this like someone else is responsible for their problem! WRONG!
What is the difference between that and buying anything else that goes down in value? You buy something and you take a chance. It’s that simple. There is no guarantee that you are going to make a profit on it. Can anyone be so stupid they don’t understand that? If you paid cash for the house, and it lost value, you are out the money. Why does the fact that you borrowed money for it make any difference. It is STILL YOUR OBLIGATION TO PAY OFF EVERY PENNY YOU BORROWED.
The fact that the house went down in value is no excuse not to pay. That’s YOUR problem. You make a damn obligation, you better keep it. Or lose the damn house because you weren’t entitled to it in the first place.
And the fact that it went down in value has no effect on your ability to pay for it. So stop whining will you.
So now, I, who have done the responsible thing, am expected to pay for YOUR BAD JUDGEMENT and the loses on your investment?
BS! Screw these people. The government should repossess the houses and resell them to many anxious people who are willing to buy responsibility. Let the people who are fools with their money rent an apartment... or be put in mental institutions!
I’ve had it with this rewarding of irresponsible behavior and punishing responsible behavior. Let’s get this society straightened out!

I totally agree.
A co-worker of mine kept saying for the past year, "I hope the government help us homeowners with our mortgages." And my response always is, "Why, you were the idiot that borrowed 50k more than the house was worth. Since you did that, why should my taxes bail your a$$ out."
Never a response back.
If I had the money in saving right now, I would buy one of these house for pennies on the dollar. Just to show an idiot how to look for a bargain.

That's always the way things work, it's wrong, but the way things work. I feel as you do, just because they bought something they can't afford, they shouldn't be bailed out for it. You sound like me, we are responsible, we take responsibility for our actions, true you are often approved for so much more money than you can actually afford to buy a home, but....that does not mean you can actually afford those payments. When I bought my condo, I went for the least expensive one I could find, sure it was a fixer upper, I've been fixing it up for the past 3 years, but....I'm happy, my mortgage is low, I didn't get in over my head. Yes, that would infuriate me too if I bought just an average house and these people that have these gorgeous homes on a $20,000 income are getting bailed out. There is definitely something wrong with this picture.
It's like this in CT, if you have no money in the bank, no assets, you can get money to pay your mortgage, but if you have even a little bit of savings you have to use that all up in order to get the help. So in essence, you have to be dirt poor or pretty close to it to get any help at all from the State or government.
It's like these people that come to America and are not citizens, yet they work at jobs that should be going to the American people, don't even get me started on that one, grrrrrr. I can't even find a job and I am a citizen!
