"There's no place like home, There's no place like home, There's no place like home..."
The Wizard of OZ was on TV tonight. I didn't have more than a few minutes to catch the ending while eating a late dinner. I was out all day on meetings and grabbed a late lunch (take out sushi) at 4 o'clock while driving back to the office. I'm home now and trying to avoid some drafting obligations due in the morning... it's going to be another late night at the drawing board. Anyway, I remember 2 years ago, I translated The Wizard of OZ, blow-by-blow to a Chinese friend via webcam and Yahoo I/M. I explained the intention of the movie was to brainwash/scare 'small-town' girls from running away from home in hopes of finding the grass is greener in the big cities. My friend got 'creeped-out' by the flying monkeys, I suppose they don't have such weird imaginations in China like we have here. She said she understood the jist of the movie. Actually, I wonder if the message of this 1939 movie was actually conveyed well to teenage girls in Middle America. I know for sure, kids now-a-days have seen so many different versions, the original has lost it's impact. Kids probably see through the plot early into the movie. Just in-case you didn't... repeat after me:
"There's no place like home, There's no place like home, There's no place like home..."

I watched it every year from a small child, and have watched it now with my g-children...have never looked deeper into the recesses of it except as a great classic...and a must see for generations to com...

Of course, The Wizard of Oz has always been one of my favorites. And those flying monkeys!....I was scared to death of them when I was a little girl!
BTW, chat, you are going to get fat if you keep up with those mid-night dinners!

Love "The Wizard of OZ". it is one of my favorite movies. Growing up we watched it every year; I bought it a few years ago & my children enjoy watching it with me (even the oldest who is 16 when she lived at home). She asked if we can watch it again when she comes home. My sister & I have always joked that we are the wicked witches (she is the one that gets crushed , I am the one that melts ).
