Steve was scheduled to have a follow up MRI to check out that space in his brain where The Fabulous Dr. S, Neurosurgeon had removed the big ol' tumor ...
(PET scans don't accurately show abnormalities in brain tissue)
He is kind of claustrophobic ... And this was mentioned when the nurse came to get him ... So, I was invited to "Come on back" ...
We put his watch and phone in my purse in the locker. I asked the nurse if I had to remove my jewelry. She told me it was OK ... just no watches due to the magnetic field. So I followed into the room, carrying Steve's binder with all his paperwork, labs, appointments, etc.
I've SEEN the MRI through the observation window but had never actually been up close & personal to one. Pretty cool. I had a chair next to the sliding gurney & she set up a mirror so we could see each other while he was inside.
As I leaned over to give him a kiss before he was rolled in ..... The magnetic field yanked the pens out of the binder ... Just WHIPPED 'em into the machine!!! Like bullets, they were!!!! OHMYGAWD!!! Had Steve been IN the machine, he'd have been impaled with 4 metal pens! It was such a weird feeling when they just FLEW out of the binder ... WHOA!! Freaked out the nurse and the tech ... Tech guy gave me a dirty look. Nurse was cool about it ...
So, they adjusted his ear-phone things and I out in ear plugs & the MRI went on .... Until. I adjusted my legs ... Straightened out my leg to cross over and APPARENTLY there is some metal of some sort in the heel of those shoes ... Thank God, I realized what was happening as my leg was being pulled toward the machine ... And I was able to just put my foot down ... After it had banged up against the outside of it.
Giggling to myself. Both feet flat on the floor. Hands in my lap, holding the binder flat. Yeah. Sometimes it's best to sit and read the paper in the waiting room.

It's interesting how God gives us a chuckle during some very intense moments. I'm glad your legs are longer than mine -- I probably woulda got sucked in.
I'm sooooooo glad the MRI's have improved and trust Steve didn't have to have a fully body scan. My daughter had an MRI almost 30 years ago now when she was about 5 -- poor little thing was completely enclosed and shut off to the world except for some breathing holes in the top of the tube. I was a wreck! But.... I must say.... I didn't shoo t pens at the darn machine!
You're in my prayers.
