I have inherited/adopted the sweetest, smartest canine companion in the world.
About three hours after I had brought Sophie into my home, I took her for a walk around the complex, stopping first to say "Hi" to Allie through the fence across the alley.
We had walked nearly to the gate, when Sophie slipped her collar. I ran toward her, but she began running from me. I was terrified that I had betrayed the faith placed in me by a newly grieved family. Sophie was loose in a strange place and I was still a relative stranger to her.
I ran behind her in the headlights of a homeward bound neighbor. She retraced the path we had walked, detouring over to Allie's fence and then across the alley to a patch of jasmine where she stopped to relieve herself. Before I could reach and collar her, she had finished her business and trotted up to my door to wait for me to let her back into her new home.
Sophie knows where she belongs!
Henry has ceased hissing at her and it appears that they will soon be friends and playmates.
