Do scammers all take English lessons from the same person?

Okay, so there is this phenomena that I simply do not understand. The only explanation I can see is that these people are all learning English from the same person. How else can you explain the fact that EVERY person who emails me claiming to be originally from Texas or Nebraska or wherever, says the same thing..."Am *insert name here*"? Never "I am _____", which any native English speaker would know is the correct way to introduce themselves. Always just "Am". What the hell?

Does someone have an explanation for this? Because I just do not get it. The other grammatical/syntactical/spelling errors are all very varied, but that one error is common among every single email I've ever gotten from a non-native English speaker who claims to be born in the US.

And really...the fact that there are so many of these people emailing me must mean that SOME of them are actually convincing people. Otherwise why would they continue with this? Seriously...if you can't tell that someone who says "Am Bobby" is lying to you when they say they're from Texas, I have no hope whatsoever for humanity.

Maybe it is one guy or a one group of people who run it like a business of sorts?

The more mail goes out the better the chance they have...??

Maybe?

Just a thought

We men receive the same thing from women, most want us to write them at their own email address. Bad idea! Others try to draw us in using suggestive to remarks how quaint a 22 old women writing a 65 year old male. Predicated on the idea that there is no fool like a old fool.

A lot of this gained popularity on the Internet from the Ukraine by mafia types posing as young women and then it spread to Russia and other Eastern European countries.

Now it has spread to India, China and a lot of the other Asian countries including the Philippines. You just never no for sure if it is a man or woman writing you it is so simple to grab any photo on the Internet.

I don't have any answers for you, but I'm guessing that it's a business where a bunch of people..(.don't even know if it's all men) sit in a room, at computers. I'm even guessing that they sit in shifts and we are not always contacted by the same person. (I've seen definite changes in abilities and writing style when I have ongoing conversations with them.)

I think they often follow a script.....evident when I send them a particular reply...like "I am NOT interested....Do not write to me again" and I receive a reply THANKING me for my nice note???? Their "JOB" is to keep contacting people until they get a hit. I'm also guessing that they are having enough success with it so that it pays for them to continue.

It has been around for years and will probably continue for years. Although what I think they are doing is WRONG, there are also many GREEDY people who think it's worth the chance to get something for nothing. With those people, there is nothing much we can do,. but, MY purpose for continuing posts drawing attention to scammers on these sites, is simply to keep this info in the foreground for newbies who might not be aware of them.

I can remember when I was a newbie, I had no knowledge of the "scam world", and, although I was smart enough to not be tempted into money making schemes, I did get fooled by some smart men who, until farther down the line, were not obvious to me as "heart scammers". But, that's how we develop our awareness of Red Flags.

I have no idea why you chose to have your comments wait for approval, but, this may limit the responses you receive because many people just don't have the time to keep checking back to see when their replies and the replies of others are posted. It makes it difficult to easily follow the topic.

I have never done it, but, do we not have the ability to remove any replies which are not satisfactory to us in our blogs?

Just my thoughts.

There's a variety of reasons for similar syntax from non-native speakers:

1) Foreign grammar isn't the same. The less related the language, the more the grammar tends to differ. In a literal translation, the same 'awkward' syntax will result. eg. "Am Bobby"

2) Translation programs, though 'pretty good' aren't perfect. The common use of "I like your structure is most certainly the result of one.

3) No one corrects them. Non-native speakers are often learning English from other non-native speakers, and practicing it here...where the quality of grammar is often pretty pitiful.

4) Cliche's, metaphors, and such don't translate very well, at all. It's "Not my cup of tea.", "Blind as a bat.", etc.

As such...

They aren't necessarily scammers....just people learning English. I'm kinda anal about grammar and somewhat analytical...I can often identify Russian and Chinese 'accents', long before they admit their heritage.

Of course, it seems to be the case that most scammers are foreign speakers, and most foreigner speakers are scammers....presumably, a result of their social/economic situation. Dunno.

I've gotten two different types of scammers:
A) The type whose first language is obviously not english.
B) The type most likely home schooled with Jerry Springer TV as their tutor.

The ironic part is, I am seeking an intelligent person, and reading many of their e-mail responses to me automatically disqualifies them.

If you are talking about the Nigerian Scammers, they have been educated in England and have the English style and word selection. I have many Brit friends and I have been to Nigeria many times. The government is corrupt and the government does nothing to curb this type of activity.

I think they are either copying from the same email or in their language, nigerian, bubutoto, fufugogo or whatever it is they speak, they do not put "I" before the, "am bugli-bugli-bugli."

It's funny that all the ones I get are from girls 25 to 30 years younger and they say they are tall and slender, but when you check out their profiles, they are 5'5" and 255 pounds.

Some even go so far as to say that they find most of the men on here to be phony when they have just joined that same day.

It's all entertainment.

Personally, and my thought only, is that there are small companies of the scammers that do train their staff to try and get your money away from you, how else could you explain the massive number of scammers??

All the scammers I get are between the ages of 21 and 34 and not local. I am 53, ohhhhh, yeah! Millions of 21 year olds want me LOL...all the profiles and emails are basically the same, so I know it is just some geek/scammer sitting in his or her living room sending out mass emails to all the men that show up on line....that is when I get the most. Trust me, these are not real people
The ones from China have slowed down, but they still come up. And all the pics from China are taken in the same studio
Also, they all mention God, at least the ones in the US do.
Like MatchDoctor warns, if they include a yahoo address, they are surely scammers. I never block them, they just write once and never do again lol
