Michael clicked on the last photograph with the mouse and completed his collection for his latest profile. He was pleased with his latest creation, a pretty blonde woman of 28, sexy looking, lots of cleavage shots, that should reel the punters in. Michael got off on the idea other men on the site actually believed he was a woman. It didn't give him a sexual thrill, even though at times he indulged in a little cyber sex with the poor saps. He did it more for the sense of power it gave him. Being on line enabled him to be whoever he wanted to be at any time.

Michael was pretty much invisible in real life. His job at the meat packing factory was mundane and paid the bills, but for some reason people just didn't take to him. Out of the 50 staff on the factory floor, only Brian ever spoke to him. Poor retarded Brian, who could barely string a sentence together but always had a ready smile.

Michael was used to being alone, he had been an unpopular child at school. His alcoholic Father had beaten him every night when he came home from the pub drunk and angry with the world. Michael tried for years to please him, but eventually gave up and kept out of his way as much as he could, that way he only got a beating once a day. His Mother had left shortly after he was born, he'd never known how it felt to be loved, to be held or feel safe. His Father never cared much about cleanliness and as a result Michael often wore the same clothes to school until they stank. This combined with his shyness alienated him from the other students.

Michael understood his Mother's reasons for leaving but he'd never been able to get his head around why she hadn't taken him with her. It also puzzled him why she hadn't at least kept in touch. His only sanctuary now was inside himself. The need to escape his violent Father spurred him on to drop out of school and find a job at the age of fifteen. He managed to find a cheap room for rent close to the factory and was happy for a while. It had been enough just to get a night's sleep without the light waking him and the punches raining down on him through the inadequate shield of the bed cover.

In time though, Michael's peaceful life became more than a little boring. He barely spoke to anyone all day, except if it was work related and his social life was non-existent. He spent most nights at his computer, scanning the internet. He had an interest in photography and had joined an on line photographic group. He discovered he had quite a talent and, in time, became quite a popular member of the site. Michael's ID there was SureShooter and he rather enjoyed not being Michael. Having this new identity gave him a sense of being able to be someone completely different. A number of women on the site often commented how much they loved his work and how they'd like to see the man behind the pictures. He remained non-commital for some time until Mandy Marie got in touch.

Mandy was so beautiful, his heart would skip a beat each time he saw another message or comment from her. When she requested a photograph of him he didn't want to disappoint her. His computer was playing up one night, the pop up blocker seemed to be out of action and he was beginning to get a bit fed up as site after site flicked onto his screen. He x-d of most of them but one drew his attention. It was a dating and friendship site in America with free membership. It didn't take long to join and he spent the next hour perusing profiles, both male and female. Suddenly, he had a light bulb moment whilst looking at the profile of a handsome guy in Wisconsin. He clicked on one of his photographs and, to his delight, realised he could copy it in seconds.

Michael posted the handsome American's picture onto his photography site profile, called himself Trent and watched the emails flood in from women all over the country. He couldn't wait to get home from work each day to open his mail and reply to his friends and fans. He really enjoyed messing with the women's heads, making them think they were something special, when they were just pictures in boxes to him. He watched the women at work each day, flirting with other guys and ignoring him in the process. God, how he hated all of them! Those stupid women thought they were so great but he knew, full well, most of the guys in the factory were only after one thing. It occurred to him it was probably all the bitches deserved. You couldn't rely on women, they didn't stick around for long, his Mother hadn't, she'd left him when he was at his most vulnerable, he'd never forgive her for that.

Mandy Marie really touched Michael's heart, she was such an angel, for some reason he felt she might be different. It scared him though when she wanted to take their friendship beyond the plasma screen. He went into a panic for days and couldn't even bring himself to open his mail and had to make excuses for his absenses. There was only one thing for it, he'd have to find a way to let her down gently. There was no way he was ever going to meet her, how could he when he wasn't even a shadow of the person he pretended to be.

Finally, he wrote to her saying how he was in a relationship now and planning to get married. He told her how much he enjoyed their correspondence and hoped they could stay friends and, to his surprise, it worked a treat. If anything, Mandy seemed to trust him more now she thought he was unavailable and opened up even more to him. Once he had her exactly where he wanted her it started to bore him.

When Michael realised he could post his photographs and write blogs on the dating site he quit the photography site without even saying goodbye to Mandy and did some work to his date site profile. He managed to find an attractive guy's photographs on another free date site and wasted no time posting them to his profile alongside some nice landscapes shots he'd taken in Wales. He blogged about losing the love of his life and watched the comments role in.

Michael's friends list grew in a matter of weeks, mainly because he sent every one who wrote to him, male or female, a request. He loved every minute of being someone else but always had to keep the women at arms length in case they actually wanted to meet him. This became a little tiresome after a while, then he remembered how being in a relationship had not only stopped Mandy's pleas to meet, but brought out a whole other trusting side of her. He altered his profile to indicate he'd met someone and, for extra authenticity, set up a female profile with more stolen photographs. He blogged from her profile about their relationship and commented on it from his own. It was obvious from the comments and emails he received on both profiles from other members of the site that it all looked highly authentic.

As the months went by, Michael decided to create a whole group of characters to have fun with. There was DianaHuntress the lusty, busty farm girl who loved horse riding and clay pidgeon shooting; Need2BLuvd, the sweet guy, with a heart of gold and a creative bent; BitchULike who took every opportunity she could to post a nasty comment on blogs and in the forums and basically stir up a hornets nest wherever she could. Then there was GrumpyOldMan who was anything but and posted continual jokes in the blogs instead of in the forums where they should be.

Michael got such a kick out of making trouble more than anything, it gave him so much pleasure to be the reason other members would be fuming or squirming on the receiving end of his emails and posts. However, there were times when he wanted some sweetness in his life. It was, therefore essential to also make good use of the nicer profiles he'd created. He'd even managed to get people to trust him enough they were prepared to get sexual with him. It surprised and delighted him how readily women would give themselves over to him on line, not to mention the men!!!

As Diana, Michael found men even more eager to please him. It gave him no sexual pleasure at all, just the same sense of power he got from knowing he was deceiving these pathetic saps. He often laughed to himself at work when he recalled how he'd got some guy off the night before with his pretence at being a woman. He was getting pretty good at it now and the erotic phrases required tripped easily off his finger tips. Of course, the more Michael laughed to himself at work, the more peculiar looks he received from his co-worker, but he didn't care. They were just dumb idiots like those excuses for people he talked to on line. Who would he be tonight? So many personalities to choose from, he'd have to give it some thought.

Well written Angel...

Sad to say though it's almost not a work of fiction...I'm sure this happens on dating sites often.
