Today was the day that I knew was coming for months. I tried to side track it, but was useless.

Winter has always given me cause for serious deliberating on what expenses to cut back on. I cut back on how high my thermostat is raised, even though the arthritis in my back and hip gives me the worse pain in the winter. I stay in the dark, unless I am cooking.

A couple of weeks ago, I was going to give food away on free cycle, but never got around to it. But with money as tight as it is, I am keeping it, and will eat it whether I like it or not.

Last week, I got the big bang in my house. Both electric and gas are threatening shut off.

Had cable canceled 2 months ago. Had to keep my phone and internet connection for my job. So, those couldn't go. I sold last years Christmas gifts (things I wanted for years) last week to get my son decent winter clothing.

So, what do I do now? Tell ya what I did. I sold my van. Taking the bus, or wheeling around in my chair will have to be my transportation now. I now have enough pay my utilities up to date, and maybe for a couple of extra months. I have enough to put some meat into the freezer.

My son got all excited at first. He thought that he would get the Christmas he wanted. We sat down, and I told him that I needed to know the one thing he wanted the most, and I would TRY to get it. But the money that I have now is to survive. He was a little disappointed, but understood.

But our Thanksgiving and Christmas will be blessed, because we will be warm, dry, have lights, a part-time job, and have each other.

Isn't that what the holidays are really about? Sure, we love gifts, and special foods, but as long as we can survive in relative comfort, there is nothing else needed.

I have a friend who is a Viet Nam Veteran. He put things into a relatively succint perspective for me when I was in a very low spot.

"You have dry sox and no one is shooting at you. You're having a good day".

May you always want what you have, and not worry so much about having what you want. And may a helping hand extend to you when you need it.

Blessings -

Love it! As bad as it may get in north america, it's still not that bad.
