Have you ever noticed that it's during those moments when we are doing something we were raised to believe is "taboo" or that our faith does not allow, that we feel most ALIVE??
I would ask you MD'ers what your take is on this question and to consider sharing moments from your own lives where you had that ALIVE feeling the most??
I have had more than one, as I am sure most of us have. Several were from my high school days when I hung out with my two best friends and did just some michevious things.
Then when I was seperated from my first husband, I DID briefly see someone, and although no future came of it, few other times in my life have I felt more alive....

My first Real kiss  gave me chills too  he was a few years older then me he had the sense to tell me to go home and come back when I grew up

when i was about 3.5, got my arm stuck in a wringer-washing machine, got pulled off the ground, got stuck with the rollers peeling skin off my right upper arm, andddddddddd my mom hearing me yell, and coming into the house and hitting the release button on the machine. i was alive, and HURTING.
............................................OR.....................................
a couple summers ago in 80* temps, around midnight, when a friend and i were on the bike coming home along the lake, gliding along,,, and i looked down to see we were "cruising" at 95mph. awesome.

Doing what you were raised as taboo,,,,,this is alive?
Then you are describing adreynaline rush or something.
Well, I've led a pretty boring life, so I can't think of times that has happened to me.
Although, I once ate a whole RED supersized pixie stick, and washed it down with Jolt cola,,,,, does that count? I felt pretty alive then.
Other than that, just boring,,,,, excpet for maybe the time when,,,,,
Tossed my boss out a second story window,
burned down a steel railroad trestle,
lit a guy on fire by pushing a road flare through his eye,
got caught pounding my sixteen year old girl friend, by a cop,,,, her mother,
stole a bucket truck to reconnect the power after an ice storm,
went surfing in a Hurricane Hugo,
the day we put the supercharger on my 426 Hemi,
the first time I outshot my dad,
the time my brothers and I were incarated for the weekend,
the day I pulled 20G's in single check,
first time I hit target with a bow, at 100 yards,
Shit, this list just goes on and on,,,, but it's boring stuff. Stuff that I think anyone else could do, or experience, given the right set of circumstances. Nothing special.
I guess to really define the moments where I felt alive, I have to find the moments of extreme emotion, that set a mile marker on my path,,,,,, and forever defined who I am, and who I will be.
This list is much shorter.....
First time I went to bed hungry.
The day my grandfather died.
When I dropped out of high school,
The day I cleaned up my foster brother after his suicide,
Graduation day, NCSU, suma cum laud.
Day I killed a man.
Day I was wounded,
Day I was married.
Birth of my daughter,
Birth of son,
PHD
Started a company,
The day I met the man who wounded me, at the VA.
Last week, when I realized that Dad is not invincible, and that despite his faults, I love him. And in his way, he loves me.

Hmm....perhaps I'm the strange one.
When I do something I feel is "taboo", I feel a little more dead.
As for "most alive", the first time a student said to me, "Thanks. I get it."
