Betty and I had a long chat yesterday evening. If you ever want to have a wonderful time and laugh your silly ass off, find someone a little older than you, get involved in their life and learn to be a friend to them. Oh, the times you will have when they start recalling their lives.. it is like seeing photographs in front of you!
Last evening, Betty and I shared our first drunks story... gotta tell you that she had me in tears and visa versa... we are really a couple of (sorry Steve Martin & Dan Ackyroyd) "wild and crazy gals"... and both of us are better off not having joined the group of those that drink seeing as we are both such frikken lightweights.
Short version of her story: Her 17 year old brother took her out (after his basic training respite, don't ask how a 17 year old got in... alls I can say is, I am a year older too, I went to work early in the factory and we sorta/kinda fudged my age so that I could help out) to a hotel... Betty was all of 18 and it was the first hotel she had ever set foot in.. she was all happy. Her brother went to the bar and ordered her a screwdriver. Betty thought it was "pretty darn good" and drank it down.. and then some older man at the bar bought her one. Her brother was looking for Betty's best friend, Skipper, as he "had it bad for her". Skipper wasn't at the bar, so they went to the country club and there they found Skipper. Cut away to Betty now having had 4 drinks (2 screwdrivers and 2 rum & cokes) being unable to walk by herself. Her brother managed to get her home and in bed. She got up the next morning with her head banging and realized she needed to be at work in 15 minutes. So she straightened out her hair with her hands and ran to work. When she returned after the day (and her boss and coworkers thought she was gravely ill) her dad asked her why she went to work in the same outfit as she had on yesterday...He knew.. winkey, winkey...
We then talked about some of the guys we had fallen for when we were young... and the ones that never really returned our love.. so for all of you out there that can relate.. this one is for all of us:
To He .. who is in the wind... Trying to Catch the Wind .. by Donovan
In the chilly hours and minutes Of uncertainty I want to be In the warm hold of your loving mind.
To feel you all around me And to take your hand Along the sand Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.
When sundown pales the sky I want to hide a while Behind your smile And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find.
For me to love you now Would be the sweetest thing, T'would make me sing Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.
Dee dee da da la da da da da da Ya da da, da da, da da
When rain has hung the leaves with tears I want you near To kill my fears To help me to leave all my blues behind.
Standing in your heart Is where I want to be And long to be, Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind. Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.. Catch the Wind by Donovan
And in other news... A celestial treat awaits avid skywatchers across the world on December 1, when a unhappy face will form in the evening skies, by the convergence of Venus, Jupiter, and a thin crescent moon. See the article here: moon, venus and jupiter on December 1st
